I bought a 5x10 plasma table built by eagle plasma. The table was used and abused, Eagle has been a tremendous help in getting it figured out and going. Now that we have the table running well its time to hook up the actual plasma. This is when we realized the stand alone THC is missing. From everything I read I definitely want THC over floating head.

Instead of buying the stand alone THC for $300, Al at eagle suggested I purchase a myplasm controller kit from him/amazon for about $510. This would use the myplasm software and no longer need Mach 3 or sheet cam. Since I only have the trial versions of sheet cam and Mach 3 this saves money in the long run.

The myplasm software trial seems easy to use. Reviews online are rather mixed. I am concerned it will lack controls I will want when actually fabbing parts. Not being able to control torch direction in bolt holes seems a notable feature that is lacking.

Is anyone using this software?

Imo, unless you're cutting corrugated sheet metal, THC is over rated. We had a hard time getting the THC to work ten years ago with mach3 and gave up on it. Haven't used it, nor needed it since.

Interesting. One thing I thought I had consistently read was to get the best THC method you could, but its true most people seem to be cutting art which is why I brought this question here.

Good working thc is a must for me. Sure you can get away with higher cut height and thicker materials with no thc. Sheets warp, slats wear uneven. If your cutting 11g and under, I would run it. If you cut long stuff it's a must. Small items it's much less needed.

Some suck though and I can understand the frustration of fucking with it constantly. I had a blue screen torchmate control and it was ok on the best day. The accumove is much better now.

I probably have a z axis around from the old setup if your interested.

I used Linux cnc and MEsa controllers on my home build.

I could lift a sheet up off the table, and drop it while cutting 150-200 IPM and the torch height controller would follow it....

THC is amazing when you get it working.

Sheet cam is also the shit...

Thanks,

I ordered the parts to switch to the myplasm system last week. Going to start building a new box for that stuff shortly.

The decision was mostly made after reading negative reviews of Mach 3. Mostly centered around the inability to start and stop a project in progress.

It appears I’ll probably still wind up wanting to use sheet cam but it won’t be required.

I never found any solid reviews on the myplasm software. But the builder that is selling these offers fantastic support.
