Looking at getting a 4’x4’ or 5’x5’ plasma table. Want a 5’x10’ but just don’t have the space for it. Think I’m interested in the STV pro5 model with a hypertherm powermax 65, but curious what my imaginary internet friends have to say....

What is the control system
Mach 3 ?
Controls upgradable ?

I looked at the model on their website and the information was not available

Apparently it uses “MyPlasmCNC” which I’m not at all familiar with. Going to contact STV on Monday and see if they have a demo version of the software available to check out. In the reviews a couple people mention it’s not as advanced as Mach 3, but very easy to use. Supposedly it’s plasma table specific and doesn’t have all the other features built in....

Ok.
My only concern with proprietary software
and controls is once the warranty period ends and, heaven forbid the company folds, you have to scramble to get the tool up and running.
Just my $.02 as a long time CNC guy

Other cnc plasma table manufacturer recommendations for a new to plasma tables guy...?

Mostly personal use, some off road fab stuff, little stuff for work and whatever occasional crap the wife wants. Think I can probably get a little side work with it here and there.

The Crossfire tables look nice, but I’m afraid the 4’x3’ probably isn’t big enough and the 4’x8’ is too big for the shop space I have available. To be honest the 5’x5’ is probably pushing the limits of available space. Any bigger and we’re gonna have to crawl under it to get around it...

Remedial at best. I’m comfortable with basic 2D solid works drawings for the most part. I fumble around a bit, but mostly cause I rarely use it. That said I’m a quick learner and lucky to have a couple of extremely talented solid works guys available to help.

I’m bound to make some mistakes...
Stay tuned...

These look nice. A little too nice.
My pockets aren’t quite deep enough....
