Pinky

So, got headers in this thing. 2" T304, TIG welded kit from Stainlessheaders.com. I have like $5K in time and materials into the exhaust.

Oh, so I hated the fit of this hood since day one... and it needed some <jim> influence.

I'll daydream about being able to justify the IH. It's too much truck for my life, as much as I'd love to buy and finish it

I'll watch for the posting so I can drool and try to justify selling my regular cab project and replace the Yukon as a family driver.

hoping to see the jeep get finished in this thread too:cool2:

Pinky is safe and secure in long term storage. 2024 is crazy busy for me between work and finishing my shop build, moving 8000sf of junk from my old shop to my new 3200sf shop and getting my old shop ready for sale.

It looks like at least half of 2025 is going to be the same so Pinky will probably not move more than 50' from its current location for at least a year and probably longer.

I don't have any concrete plans for it. A few preference changes like tires/wheels and I need to lower the seat. My head is about an inch from the roll bar and that's before I add a little cushion. If I want to keep my wife (I do, she's freaking awesome), I will need to ditch the bombs, add seat belts and make it quieter. She thinks it's cute. We'll see what she says when she rides in it the first time.

I'll update this thread on the extremely unlikely chance I actually do anything with Pinky in 2024.

the 12g tank is probably enough. The plan was to run harness'

Send me the bombs back, then.

Hit me up in 2025.

I have a set of harnesses I got in 2022 on the Unlimited LJ Adventure from Shane Smith. I'll see how they fit. I'm leaning towards just lap belts. I have plenty of time to make that decision.

I'm getting poked to take Pinky to a parade sponsored by a local 4x4 group in the middle of May. To make that happen a few things need to be done.

- Pinky is going to the tuner April 15. He has exactly the same setup in his daily except with a smaller cam. He's building an exhaust with mufflers
and resonators connecting to the existing header flange and hanger location. He's tuning it for max performance with the existing exhaust, then
with the full exhaust. Hoping to make it reasonable when taking the wife on dates. I think it needs a valet mode but not sure if that's possible.

- Seats are on order. Still bomber style seats but with padding. Not sure if these will get installed in the short term. I can't weld aluminum worth a
crap so need to get on my brother's schedule.

- Need to remove the bombs and get some fuel fillers installed. I think I found what I'm going to order but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

- Need to add some graphics. Probably just vinyl so it can be swapped out easily.

- Wheel/tire change. Looking at smaller rims and bigger tires. I need some input. Here are a few options. Last option is just a stock Vette wheel.
Probably going square or nearly square with the 3" wheel spacers gone. Likely 10" wide in the front and 11-12" in the back. Tires are likely
going to be raised white letter Goodyear, Hoosier or similar. Like the vintage look. I looked at Torque Thrusts and a bunch of other more vintage
styles but not sure if they fit the look. I normally don't care what wheels are on my junk. Form over function. I think this needs both.

Give me some feedback or alternatives.

Of the options given, #3 is closest to blending vintage style that I would aim for, including a bit of a dish/negative offset on the wheels.

Are you going to keep it flat/level or going to have a bit of a rake to it?

Hard to tell side and front profile appearances but from Grendel's June, 2022 pics I feel there is an opportunity to add to the modern-retro style with a narrower front tire maybe even a 9" width wheel. Also, my $.02 would be for 17" wheels so you have the meatier tire look.

What "vintage" look are you going for? Vintage rally, indy car, dirt track, Corvette, Jeep, hot rod, custom, low rider? or '80s era CJ-7 to match my favorite flares? Wheels are the #1 way to make or break your look.

Modern retro... :smokin:

Vintage applied to the tires. Back in my day......raised white letter tires were it. I'm vintage. I have to check to see if 17's will fit. If not, it will be 18's. Need to get some to test fit to verify I can still steer with 9 or 10" wheels. Can't steer with the current wheels without the spacers. Kinda like the goodyear look from when I was a kid and went to my first drag strip.

Since this is a 1 of 1, I can't just go look at pics of similar rigs and copy.

I was leaning toward road race with bead locks on all 4 corners with raised white letter tires along the lines of pic 2. But I don't have a clear vision for where to take this and could use any feedback. I may not take your advice, but I appreciate it.:grinpimp:

I like the last wheel and thought it would be a good look but got a hard no from the boss. She claims not to care but definitely has an opinion.

LOL, wondered about 17s clearing the brakes but we are thinking the same thing!

Just went to the first page and looked at the rendering. Goodyear logo on the tires. Check. Beadlocks. Check.

Didn't realize I was in line with Grendel. Not sure what that says about me.

The rending doesn't have the correct hub placement. They are wider which will drive high backspacing wheels. I can't get the front wheel to tuck that far in under the fender. Rear are pretty close to where they'll end up just more backspacing needed on the wheels.

lt1yj Whoa there Hoss. Slow 'er down a bit, you're getting way too much done way way too quickly.

A local 4x4 club hosts veterans several parades a year. They keep it to just Jeeps. I’m friends with a few of the members and have helped out for the last few years as the number of vets participating has grown they needed more Jeeps. The organizer was at my shop picking up parts and saw Pinky and his wife started talking to my wife and it’s all downhill from there.

I don’t think I’ll have the seats or wheels by then so it’ll probably be running whatever I can find on marketplace that’ll fit.

More opinions needed. Fuel filler caps to replace the bombs. It's set up to fill on either side so I need two.

I'm leaning towards this style. Fully covers the bomb mounting holes. It looks bigger in the pic than in reality. 4 1/2" diameter which is almost exactly the corner to corner for the bomb base plate. I like the vintage overly complicated look.

My wife likes this style a little better (cobra etc):

This is what I originally planned. Flush mount and nearly invisible. This just barely covers the current holes. If I go this route I'll make the front two into flag holders. If I use one of the other styles I will make stands for the rear speakers with the same bolt pattern as the bomb mntg plate.
