My current computer has the contents of three older laptops and multiple phone back ups over the years. I know there are duplicate and triplicate photos behind stored. I have gone through manually doing some sorting and organizing in to folders, but am wondering if there is some good photo organization software out there?

Ideally be able to sort photos by image, not file names. This would help finding duplicates and similar photos to group together.

Easily change file name and change names for multiple photos that are in the same group.

Be able to add tags to photos for future reference.

I don't mind paying for decent software that works and is user friendly. Any suggestions besides drink bleach?

I'm curious about this too. It's been annoying me for years, but has grown out of hand to the point of being overwhelming to try and unfuck.

I've been using Adobe Bridge for that kind of stuff since it allows me to do what you're asking:
-Tag photos with metatags
-Batch rename
-Add ratings or stars to your photos
-Filter files
and some other stuff. Here's a link to view and manage files in Bridge. IIRC, it comes with the other Adobe Software but you can download just the Bridge app for free and you can go here to see

I'll give this a look. I am also going to try photo mechanic. It was recommend by a photographer at work.
