Fans have been calling for him to be put in for the last several years when it became clear he was in failing health

There is a documentary on HBO Max that’s pretty good. I think he should be in the hall of fame but he does come off as a very self centered person in the documentary.

Oh hell ya.

Still a legend of the game.

2 x golden glove
3 x batting champion
MLB hits record
MLB singles record
MLB plate appearance record
MLB games played record

23 seasons is a long ass run

Nolan Ryan is a much classier act tho :flipoff2:

Never heard of him, but I wasn't watching balls games in the 80s.

Name one truly great athlete who isn’t self centered. They all are, because they have to be if they want to reach that level.
I get that, but this was portrayed more on the personal side with friends rather than just when he was competing. There was a guy that Pete took under his wing that placed bids for him when he was betting. He took the wrap for Pete and went to jail for several years and just wanted a thanks or acknowledgment for what he did, but Pete didn’t do that so the guy ended up sharing his story. There were other examples, that made him seem like a shit friend.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Show Hey Otani in the future. Especially if they keep Pete out. :stirthepot:

Didnt he bet on himself to win too? Like not throwing games? I feel like thats different than taking a dive

That’s what I remember about him. Betting against his own team or some shit. Don’t care for sports like that anyway so I had 0 fucks about what he did.

I met the guy a few times in the 90s and he was always a prick.

He bet on baseball when it was illegal to do so, lied about it to the end and thought that he was better then the rest. He simply could have appologised for his lapse of judgement and he would have been accepted back into baseball. Instead he decided to insist that what he did was fine so he was punished. The powers that be made sure he would never know the satisfaction of being in the HOF.

Again?

Addicts, doesn't matter booze, drug, sex, gamble, will often find an Enabler. Doesn't make them a friend. Just another body to use to accomplish the addiction.

Enablers, often believe that it's a friendship. It's not.

Pete should have already been in the Hall. But he's an asshole who burnt a lot of bridges.

Spoke with 2 people I know who played ball in MLB, one in Pete's era. Both said he should be in HOF. Both said he was a good dude.

Take that for what it's worth.
