It seems I can t get the pattern as close to root as I like. Even when I put the pinion real close to the ring. These were the two best patterns I got.

What you think, run it, scrap it, drink bleach?

I ran a pattern like that once and it just wore the outside of the ring gear and got all crunchy and bitchy within a few hundred miles.

If i remember correctly the fix was shimming the pinion closer to the carrier.

Id tighten up the back lash. Try .006 and .045 pinion. I'm no expert. I'm just good at reading the parts. Speaking of reading the parts. Does that gear set have a backlash engraved in the ring gear?

This is what I think I will run with. Ended up at ,045 pinion shim. Tightened up the back lash a bit. It is now .07-.08. There is about a .0015 backlash difference across gear due to run out.

Backlash spec is .06 to .10. I’ll check what is on the ring gear, I couldn’t decipher the numbers engraved on the pinion gear.

Hopefully not late in helping .....

Drive side is okay ... but the coast side needs some help. Might have to split the difference if you can't get both patterns exact. Coast "controls" the noise (so to speak). So I might concentrate a bit more on making sure that side of the tooth is more 'on the money' Might .002 might be enough to move the coast side while keeping the drive side pattern acceptable.

I'd personally try to run the backlash even tighter.
