I have had this vise for about 15 years. I think I bought it for $20. I used it for a while but ended up shelving it because the lead screw follower doesn't have a stop behind it so when loosening the vice it won't force the jaws apart it just pushes the follower back. Anyone familiar with these and know how it should be captured?

No idea how it's "supposed" to be retained but drill and tap from bottom. insert socket head cap screw from the top.

I'll try to remember to check my parkers, but IIRC there's a blind hole drilled right behind the nut, with a piece of 1/4" round stock hammered in and over the back of the nut. Not complicated.

Yup, my 434 1/2 and my 386 are the same. Pics for reference.
Thanks. I figured before I drilled a hole in a hundred year old vise id at least try to find out how they were originally. Interesting that mine has nothing preexisting there.

Is it possible that there's a pin there that broke off flush and can't see easily?
