What's new

Panzers: I break rocks thread

but you just said that they got more gears out of an existing transmission by adding in clutch-clutch shifts, like the 5r110 did outta the 4r100 hard parts or the TCM 6spd 4l80e

just ditch those additional ranges and have the "old model" with a four speed or whatever they had before
I should have said same space not design. This is a total different trans, solenoids in the pan etc. But there isn't enough length to just add clutches.

There is a bunch of shit mounted on that tube on the other side, the control valve for the bowl etc. is on the other side.
Yeah they had to pull that valve off to get at everything. I even think that have to weld shit on the back side also.

It’s hard to believe some 1/2” plates will help keep that tube from cracking. That bitch has to be at least 1.25 to 1.5”. It is massive.

Yeah I think those plates wrap around the tube. It was cracking at the HAZ on those welds at the side plates I think, but those letters were all from 2015, why I couldn't believe it was still a problem.

Tossed it on the old Bridgeport and hammered it smooth. I really like this fly cutter makes quick work of shit like this.
banging away with that little spindle... power feed makes it a set it and forget it, but I'll never understand why you don't use the shit outta that hor-bore

I need to acquire more tooling for the hor bore. I also need to make a 5mt taper lock for milling so the shit doesn’t pull out. Problem is I’m always in a hurry so the Bridgeport gets it :homer:.

cut a tapered wedge outta some 1/4" plate, really shallow taper like 1/4" per foot, hammer that in the keeper slot and lop it off where it tightens up

assuming you're jamming an adapter into the MT5 to something like a #40 so you'll only need the one wedge

Yeah I have a flash change master holder.

yup, the fancy screw together keeper wedge is a total waste
they're only for when you've got a whole bunch of tools that all have slightly differing slot depths

Let the spindle sit with the heat gun pointed into it for 30min, keep the adapter in the freezer. With 5+ thou of interference that adapter isn't going anywhere for a long time.

You don't say, "fuck the next guy" when you know you'll be that guy :homer:
I thought the point was that he'd adapting it to NMTB-whatever which he presumably has tools for and doesn't need to take it out once it's in.

My bulldog tonight. I don’t think he is in the mood for my bullshit :lmao:.

no, it'll fall back out promptly
self-locking tapers are not self locking when used for milling
this was figured out well back when the B&S spindle nose taper was 'the popular option'

That's why I advised an interference fit.

You can mill with morse taper. It's not great and you're leaving a lot of capacity on the table vs an alternative taper but you can.

Adding a few thou of interference is a cheap/easy way of getting a lot more out of it.

Got a little bit of time to work on the dog bone again today. I bored the hole out round so I could weld it up tomorrow.

It’s looking better allready! There was some hard cutting my little boring bar was not happy at times. The weld should cut so much easier. I’ll probably lay down two passes then clean it back up and lay 2 more down to get it small enough to get it machined down to the right size.

Dad stopped by this afternoon and said I had a big decision to make. I was like wtf went wrong now.

It turns out Sandvik is not having a booth at the con expo this year. Instead they are doing big demos all around the country with their crushing spreads.

So our local case dealer got chosen to be the host for the demos. Today they asked me if they could do it in one of our pits. I’m on the bubble about this. Yes it would be neat to have 10 brand new crushers all running in the pit.

The know one of my pits has sand and gravel, a rock quarry and some recycle in it so it would be a perfect spot to demonstrate everything. I’m sure it would make it in some of the trade magazines.

Not excited about having 500 people come to watch the demos. I’ll have to think about this this weekend. My dad is all excited because he is a peacock, me on the other hand don’t want attention and would rather lie in the weeds.

I’m pretty sure I’m not gonna make any money off this deal, and it will probably cost me time and money cleaning the place up so it doesn’t look like a shit show.

I’ll probably get to meet some very very high up the food chain people.

I'm with you on the low-profile preference.

Would there be any business benefit to it, or just bragging rights?

If it wouldn't further your business or knowledge, it's pure liability IMO.

Full disclosure: I like small gatherings & hate large parties. YMMV

Do you get to keep the product that comes off their demo spreads? Might be a day or two of free output, if nothing else.

Maybe you get a free lunch? And a massive headache? :flipoff2:

Line them up a bunch of your worst granite. Embarrass the shit outta them with rock that strains their machines.
