Need some input on setting up a oxy/acetylene setup a coworker picked up at the flea market for me.

Kit came with a craftsman torch kit from maybe 1970-80's era. Tanks were full. Cost $300

Hose leak just a little :lmao:. Yes they are wired onto the fittings.

Few pieces I still have left over from a torch setup I had years ago before I moved states.

Might be used 6-10 times a year
cutting .25 - .75in
welding on the remote parts of the property where I dont have power
heating parts up for bending or something

I guess Im questioning if its worth just buying a new torch kit or purchasing a hose to run the setup?

fix the hose?
get longer hoses?
get a bigger tank?
you have caps?
are those owner bottles?
3/4 is going to suck those bottles inside out

What input are you looking for exactly?

This was the question. Been awhile since Iv used a Oxy Torch setup and even then I would consider it very little.

it depends on the mission
I'd snip the hoses back to where they are not leaking and put new ends on

shrug
if the regulators are working run them

I have a hard fast rule, I do not work outside
if needs to fit in my shop or I don't work on it

that being said, I have 300' strapped to the wall with enough hose to reach every corner of the shop
but I am not hauling anything to the field
There is nothing wrong with your set up

lol must be nice. 80% of the shit I fix is outside:lmao:

Looks pretty similar to what I just picked up. I got new hoses and a cart from HF and ran it. For me, it will likely suit most of my needs. For you, see what the current setup does for you and then upgrade if needed.

Turns out the old ass craftsman regulators are the only ones that dont spike with the bottles opened.

Hoses leaked at crimped ends after I fixed the wire wrapped ends so I order 25ft set off amazon for delivery tomorrow.

I dont want to burn the epoxy floor in the garage so no garage burning for me.

Time to modify my Tractor ballast box so I can secure the cart when moving around property.

Is there a diaphragm inside the regs that goes bad?

Had two regs pop in the last year.

Good to know. Who is better? Smith or Victor's

A sears is tough to find. Who made craftsman
Im operating a fab shop, so they get used every day. I buy only Victors, but you do what works
That Craftsman looks like a Harris rebrand to me, but I am guessing at it

If it was me I'd run the Victor equipment and try to sell the other stuff.

I've got at least a half dozen regulators, 2 flow meters and 5 torches they're all Victor. I've never had a problem getting either parts or service on them.

The name brand regs and torch bodies can be rebuilt with readily available parts. I'd look into that before buying anything new.

The smith torch tips use a lead packing if I'm remembering correctly. The Victor's use something else.

Its Sad, I can't remember this stuff, after years of cutting.

When it comes to oxy acetylene setups, I don’t fawk around with hoses. Just buy a new one the length you need and move on.

I use a journey man victor setup and rebuilt my Reg once so far no issues. I never leave the Regs dialed in when not in use. I shut down the tanks, bleed the system out and back off the Regs.

While I have a hypatherm 85 plasma cutter, I still use my torch setup a fair amount of the time. I’ve used these for most of my life on different jobs I came across to stripping vehicles and freeing stuck shit up. I used it this past weekend too.

Great tool to have around for sure.
