Does anyone have any knowledge on outdoor speakers? @Projectwin

I have a fantastic patio located between my shop and my house. When i put in the stero in the shop, i got an amp that had a second set of outputs so i could put 2 speakers on my patio. At the moment I have just been opening that side door and cranking the tunes in the shop. House is to the right, shop is to the left.

I came down to two different speakers Polk atrium 4 and Polk OS70

I dont like that the Atrium 4 only go down to 75hz min whereas the OS70 go down to 40hz. I was not planning on putting a woofer outside, this isnt a concert hall, just a place i would like to be able to listen to decent quality tunes.
My big issues is size. OS70: 18x14.5x11 vs Atrium 4: 9x6x7
I am wondering if the OS70 might look ridiculous under the soffits of my shop.

Does anyone have any advice on this one? Custom speaker boxes up in the shop soffits?:flipoff2:

I went through the same thing several years ago and ended up getting these. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have been really happy with how they sound. They've been outside under an eave for 4 years and still work perfectly. Size wise they are in the middle of the two you posted.

Edit: The grills will fall off. A couple dabs of silicone sticks them back on for good. The glue they use just isn't up to the temps I guess.

I have the same Yamaha's on the dock. they sound decent but i also had to silicone the grills on.

I don't know how loud you like your music, but the smaller JBL speakers that run on Bluetooth sound amazing, and are quite loud. I have a JBL Charge 3, and it's hard to hear people over it when it's on full blast in the shop. They've started making slightly larger units that would most likely sound great outside.

Portable, and inexpensive.

Klipsch AW-650's ... if you want something that actually has some output, fullness, and quality outdoors, don't opt for anything smaller than a 6.5" woofer.

The other option is to pick up a bluetooth speaker...in particular I have one of the JBL Change 3's which is waterproof but they do make larger versions. Nice thing about those is you can bring them anywhere for music and not just limit to your patio.

We have the same in Black. So far, no issues. They are tucked up nice and high in a covered patio.

X4 on these, same setup tucked up under a gazebo. I also had some more expensive speakers under the eves pre gazebo that worked well.

I recomend getting the Blue Fidelity blue tooth amp. It's the size of a pack of cards and plugs into an outlet and you can run the speakers off that and stream off your phone. Works great!! http://www.amphony.com/products/bluetooth-audio-receiver.htm

They have an upgraded version that I got my dad along with the Yamaha speakers, he likes it. Is it concert level sound, no, but sounds good for a wide range of music for chilling on the deck and even will get decently loud if you are having a party and you want drunk chicks to dance around take their tops off.

I second this. I have these Klipsch speakers myself and they sound great. The Bose 151s I had prior sounded like shit by comparison.

I got a Bose S1 Pro that puts out a ridiculous amount of sound. When we have outdoor movie night I hook the projector up to my MBP and bluetooth the audio to the Bose. Zero complaints with sound quality and I do studio recording on the side so I'm pretty picky.

I have a set of Niles outdoor speakers that are 15 years old now, been outside the whole time, and still sound very good.

If you can find a set of Tannoy I8AW's or the smaller I6AW speakers you won't be sorry. A buddy has them at his cabin and they really do sound like good home speakers.

Oh, and I can guarantee you those Polks don't go down to 40hz, maybe 10db down at 40, but no way you're going to get that out of a small plastic box and 6.5" driver.

I spent a few 100 on some great Bose speakers. I've had them for about 20 years and loved them. Now we use a little bose bluetooth speakers. Sound distribution is better as you can take it all around the yard and don't have to crank it. Neighbors are happier.
