Howdy Yall,

I’m making a trip out to Oregon for my grandmother’s funeral the first weekend of November and taking a couple extra days to do some exploring with my kids.

Nov. 1st we’ll be around Bend and I was thinking of hitting up Cline Buttes and then on the 2nd was debating doing some trails in Tillamook State Forest (Browns Camp area)

Not looking to hit anything too gnarly as it will just be me and my 2 young boys, but want more than just dirt fire roads. Looking to have some fun without breaking shit, smashing up the rig, or getting stuck in mud. Rig is a 3rd gen 4Runner on 33’s w/elocker rear. Pretty determined to get my winch wired up and operational before the trip.

I have OnX Offroad and BLM maps of the area, but any first hand knowledge of those 2 spots from people who have wheeled there would be much appreciated, recommended trails or places to avoid, etc.

Thanks in advance guys!

Is cline buttes the newer place out if la pine that you wheel on volcanic rocks?

I'd also check out hoodoo if you can but it's been years since I wheeled Oregon

Had some buddies that liked to do Sand Lake and TSF in the same trip.

Thanks guys! not too interested in sand this trip but good to know for future reference 🤙🏻

Might be a different place, Cline is a little north up west of Redmond. Opened in ‘12 I think? UA2012 did a couple trails there but seems to have a decent amount of moderate stuff too

I thought Hoodoo looked pretty gnarly from watching 4locked vids and DED, probably a bit more than I’m comfortable tackling alone but would love to wheel there once I build the rig up a bit more

You'll have a good time at Brown's camp. Everything is fun and challenging without getting full retard. The crushers and 7UP are the toughest spots there and fully optional.

Lots of exploring trails at Hoodoo other than just quack attack and jerkey. Can definitely spend a day driving around on dirt roads and getting to difference view points for A beer, then down to big lake campground for another one.

Cline butte has plenty more trails to check out and can be made as hard as you like, or for the most part drive around anything you really don't want to do.

Rim butte is also on my list, but I haven't ever been.

Also consider taking a day hike around Smith Rock, it's amazing.

Tydes is local to bend.

There's some cool things to see around Bend. Boys old enough for hiking? There's Fort Rock, Hole in Ground, Crack in Ground, lava tubes, Christmas Valley, etc, etc. Also the High Desert Museum is awesome, we go at least once a year.

Your thinking of rim butte

Huh? Sand Lake is cool for a day, then you fill the rest out breaking your shit at TSF. Big boy dunes are further south but OP don't care about that.
I would be pissed if I drove that far for Sand Lake

count them....3 miles from end to end
and
two dunes, one that was so blown up I watched a LT50 make it over the last time that I was there

It has been years since I have been, but there is a reason

That’s great to hear, is there bypasses on firebreak 5? Looks to be part of a loop out there. Any specific trails I should look for? Hoping to get 4ish hours of wheeling in there
That was my vote until he said Bend. Tillamook is a bit outta the way from there.
Funeral is actually in Portland so close enough for me to wanna work it in 🤙🏻

Thought was leave Boise thur eve and drive to Bend
Fri wheel cline for the morning, check out cline falls and redmond caves then mid afternoon head to the coast and hopefully catch the sunset
Sat do some hiking in the morning by the coast then head to TSF to wheel from early/mid afternoon till dark (or 7pm ish) then meet up w/ family in portland that night

There’s a shit ton of road time there obviously and not gunna be able to do a ton of wheeling but trying to smash as much as I can into the trip

Perfect re: Cline, that’s exactly what I was hoping to hear!

Rim Butte looks freakin dope :smokin:

There’s so much cool stuff around Bend, I wish I had a full week for this trip but that’s life. Kids are 7 and 2, so old enough to hike but young enough to bitch about it and want me to carry them  Used to go to Bend a bunch when their Mom and I were together, definitely wanna go back again sometime to do more with the boys its such a cool area.

Thanks for the responses guys

Most of the trails have bypasses for the hardest stuff.

You're fucked if you think you'll walk through Portland mid afternoon on a Friday and make the sunset on the coast. :lmao:

Right on 🤘🏼

22 through Salem actually :flipoff2: but that’s a fair point I did not think about

I highly recommend getting avenza maps app and download the tsf map. Real easy to get turned around out there

Portland area retards are some of the upper upper echelon of retarded drivers in the US. You're in for a treat.

Avenza sounds like a good idea, I looked in their map store and didn’t find much but I’ll try again.

As a backup I can use OnX for location and cross reference these

I live about 15min away and go there frequently. Unfortunately I have to work on the 1st

SKULLYOTA
Thanks :smokin: Just found out you can search for maps off their map :homer: haven’t really dug into that app much yet. Good to know, I’ll hit you up if I roll my shit

Was looking for a TSF specific one but looks like that’s the only free one for the area  It’ll do!

I vote you go to rim butte
Lol

I mean don’t get me wrong, it looks badass!

But this is a solo trip in a stockish DD yota on 33’s where I still have to drive hundreds of miles afterwards :lmao:

Down the road after at LEAST a crawl box (but preferably that + sas, front locker and bigger tires) and preferably a tow rig and trailer, I’m game :smokin:

I think some of the access to Rim Butte might be an issue with fire closures still.

I'll have to check my calendar but I might be free for a small tire run on that Saturday at TSF, if you are interested in having a guide. It's been a few weeks since the TJ has seen dirt.
That would be rad :smokin:

Shitty, didn’t think to check on fires in the area. No issues w/ Cline Butte though as far as fires?
