Hey guys my name is Eddie. New to irate. I’ve been wheeling a Tacoma for a few years now, but wanted to get into a crawler and this is the rig I found. Let me know what you guys think. I’ll be posting a build thread soon as well as changes I make.

Basic run down, it’s an 80 pickup, got a 22re swap, 5speed manual, single 4.7 transfer case, 5.29s and the tires are 37x14R15s. Runs great, needs a couple things, definitely want to add a second box, a cage and maybe change wheels and tires.

killer little truck, dig the bed, don't care for whatever is going on with the front fender rubs and stinger

Yeah I dig the bed a lot. Torn on the tube fenders and stinger. Don’t know if I’m gonna cut them off or try to support them and utilize them

I love seeing nice first gens these days! They are getting harder and harder to find...

Funny how the Us and Aus 4wd scenes differ. Here in Aus near everyone runs those "tube fenders", we call then brush bars as hence they're for keeping ya panels straight in the brush and to push livestock/save from hitting wild life. Personally they don't really appeal to me since their never built to be close fitting, but they do save on fenders on our roads. Anyway just some Aussie 4x4 info for ya'll.
Sweet truck!

:smokin: that thing is sweet!

if rubirunner is over there giving you shit then you must be in my area somewhat

let me know if you need some help finding parts

I'm an hour outside Oakley on the east side of the delta in Napa, where is op from?

After I pointed out a few things that needed to be addressed before this rig saw any rocks, I allowed Eddie to convince me to do a mild trail...in the snow.

well the truck dug in it’s heals right before the trail head and needed to be limped back down the hill.

the clutch slave died and the trans wouldn’t go in gear unless the engine was off. I’m like this is normal :homer: ohh and there’s no steering cooler the dumb ass po looped the lines. Ohh and the front is locked all the time and you cannot steer if both hubs are locked. I’m like okay 4wd isn’t really needed:flipoff2:

i got to enjoy seeing Eddie nervously take instruction on how to drive without a clutch and overly apologetic to the people behind us at the stop lights while he go the hang of starting in gear. Hopefully my lack of caring rubbed off and your first taste of wheelin was a good one :flipoff2:

Looks like they popped the motor off and used a bolt for the engagement shaft. In theory it looks like you can lock and unlock it with an Allen key. There is a collar inside the diff that locks the axle, the motor actuates a worm gear assembly to slide it over, but your motor seems to have been removed. Not sure if you can remove it without getting into the leafs.

thanks, I’ll try to put a Allen in there and see if it does anything. I’m guessing getting a e locker motor is stupid expensive still so I’ll check if the chil kat cable is still a thing. Any other options available to make it selectable?
