I just got this 67 Newport. It needs a rag joint/vibration dampener/steering connection. The problem is none of the parts sources know anything about the dampener. I have only found one thing that references it and it mentions Police Package.
Anyone got any info on this.
First a couple car pics, then the steering column with the missing connection.
Yes I have the fender skirts.
And a screenshot of the reference to cop cars

Every 1stgen dodge truck has that pot coupler... unless it's been changed to an aftermarket ujoint type.

It's the flexible coupler above the pot coupler. I guess my pictures in the dark didn't work out. I will try more pictures tonight when I get home.
The White screenshot page mentions it, second section on the right side. I can't find anything else that has a part # though.

Measure the shaft and spline coupler on the box and jegs, summit, direct from flaming river etc will ha e what you need.

Side note those wheels are worth a chunk of change.

energy suspension makes them I believe. Also if you go into the undercar section, or HELP, or Dorman section of any autoparts store, there is usually one there. the counterpeople do not know what they are typically.

The thing with 2 bolts? is it a rubber block?

If it was easy I wouldn't have started this thread. In the first screenshot it says they are a 60s Mopar Cop Car thing. Not a standard rag joint
All 3 local parts stores were clueless

Which wheels have value? There are 3 different ones on it?

What are they?

Stop looking for what you are missing and just spec the size of shaft and count the splines on the steering box and measure their OD. That joint is simple to find, flaming river and borgeson both make them in all sizes and spline.

Borgeson also makes a ujoint coupler with a built-in vibration dampening

To clarify for everyone else, the coupler at the steering gear end is called a ball and trunion joint. Chrysler used these for years, larger versions were used in place of u-joints on driveshafts. OG constant velocity joint. The piece under the cover looks like it attaches to something like a rag joint. I think you can find the parts you need at the link below with regard to the rest. Scroll down about 2/3 the way.

MOPAR PERFORMANCE STEERING PARTS

So that little socket coupler thing is bad? It looks like just the rag joint under the cover is broken. I did read, and looked at the pictures, but you talk about that socket coupler but do not talk about it actually being a failed part. What is the problem with just getting the rag joint replaced.

I think you are paying attention to the wrong part. take a pic of under that cover. you will have 2 ends, with 2 bolt holes. they will sit 90* from each other and are coupled with a basic rag joint. the police package shit you are mentioning has nothing to do with the part you need.

I got a couple of a little more clear pics last night.

Without the cover on you can see what looks to me to be the remains of a LOVEJOY type coupler. When I was picking up the car there was one of the wedges of rubber still in there. It fell out while trying to steer it to get it loaded.

Next plan is stacking 2 or 3 rag joints up to fill the gap.

The pot joint is fine. I just need to connect the 2 pieces so I can steer this thing out of my way

I once used parts from an Aspen in a scrapyard to fix the link between the steering wheel and the steering box thing on the side of the frame in a W250. It's a Mopar, it's not going to go to the moon. Dont overthink it, the parts are out there.

Just saw the pictures, calling Borgeson and get a U-joint coupling. Or take a U-joint coupling from a PTO axle or a steering column from a big rig and put it in instead of that rubber mess. That's how it should have been made when it was new

It appears that the shaft going to the steering box is slid quite a ways in the ball and trunnion joint. It looks like you could slide out towards the steering column and bolt in a regular rag joint.
