A buddy of mine just inherited a 50s vintage model 94 30-30. And with it some ammo. Super x 150 grain sold in 1988. Question is.. would you trust it? Arid climate, if that matters.

I've shot ammo that was much older than that, probably have ammo sitting around my house that is from the 1950s.
As long as it was stored inside and doesn't look like shit it'll be fine.

That doesn't even have corrosive primers, if he don't trust it have him send it to me.
I have a bunch of Yugo milsurp x39 from the early '70's that still functions just fine.

And.......

Good luck finding any new 30-30 Win right now.

Seriously, that’s not even close to old. I routinely shoot pre WW1 ammo and have shot pre turn of the century ammo.

No absolutely not ship it to me and I will dispose of it properly and safely.

in all reality I’ve shot ww2 surplus ammo out of my garand and 03 and never had a problem if it looks like shit just clean it up and run it if it looks good run it as is. If it goes bang its good

tell him to try and find some new stuff before he decides it is no good.

Check for split necks and go to town. Here's a hint: 1988 ammo, everything will be fine.
