So I had nice trip to the rubicon for the holiday weekend but lost #2 rod bearing towards the end of the weekend on a low mile 3RZ. I think I might of scored the bearing when I was in Hollister a couple months ago but owell shit happens.

Is anyone out there running a oil accumulator on their Toyota engine and how did you adapt to the engine?

Not interested in going dry sump.

Was looking for a sandwich plate that would possibly bolt in front of the oil filter. If not, where did you tap the oil supply at?

What psi did you set the bladder at?

How many extra quarts does it add?

Manual ball valve or some kind of trigger solenoid?

Luckily I have a couple extra engines to swap to get me back wheeling but want something to help prevent this from happening again.

something like this.. i know nothing about this bypass but sounds like it could be used. no clue though

i just use the manual valve. turn it on at the beginning of the trip and dont worry about it.

4 cyl 1.5 quart or 2 would be ok
bladder i think was 7 psi it was a weird number if i recall.

mine is not on toyota but a few of your questions are universal so to speak

Do you have balance shafts/chains in your 3RZ?

I torched two bottom ends on 3RZ's from oiling issues that started with the balance shafts. Cut the chain out and left the shafts in with no issues on the current bottom end.

Year 4 on my 3rz. No balance shafts, run a bit over full on oil but never a issue. I'd think about running a accumulator for peice of mind but I've never experienced a lack of oil pressure issue.

I assembled the motor like 4 years ago and deleted the balance shafts. Oil pressure was always higher than most of my other toyotas.

Might be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that you don't want to delete the balance shafts because it can affect oil pressure elsewhere in the engine. remove the chain and all is good.

You have to block the oil port and install plugs or spin the cam bearings if you're removing them.

I just turned the bearings 90* to block the oil ports.

Does anyone know if you can use the factory oil filter bulk head? Not sure if it feeds in the right direction.

There's a hole in the front of the block you need to drill and tap for a plug as well.

While this was like 30 years ago and designs have changed, I used a moroso piston / cylinder type accumulator and the O rings leaked and made a mess.

FYI YMMV

They're bad for that.
That's on my regular check/change list.
Takes 15mn to change the 3 o'rings it's not that bad.

They make a "HD" version with screw on caps that doesn't leak.
