Official Watches of Chit-Chat Thread!

If you can, different companies use different stainless for the bands.

The factory tag Heuer and older Bulova watches have what feels like the most comfortable stainless steel to me.

Which means, go try some on and see what feels good to you, weight and texture.

Once you've got a size, weight and texture, then figure the look and movement.

For something that isn't worn often, avoid a battery watch. Go mechanic hand wind or automatic. Check out ones without a date as well.
Based on size, my Garmin is 45mm. Very readable (have it set on a digital readout). Found a few, but I don't know the weight of a 45mm stainless vs a plastic and rubber setup, but I imagine it's quite a bit heavier. For a once in a while I don't know if it's that big of a deal.

Have found a few, and I can order these through work, but it's mail order, so I may have to research in person. It's a lot cheaper than in store. Here's a few, I have heard of citizen, Hamilton from here, and I know Bulova makes watches but that's all. No idea of Bering. These all look like they are sub $600 watches. My list is limited to what they show, and having to search based on pictures so may not be exact (don't have part number in the listing).

Sport Automatic Light Blue Dial Stainless Steel Bracelet NH7530-52L | CITIZEN - unsure if the one I can get is automatic though

Han Solo Blue Dial Leather Strap AW5009-03W | CITIZEN like it, but not high on the list being more "character"

Citizen Promaster SST Eco-Drive Grey Black Dial Watch | CITIZEN it's the blue offering with the leather band

Titanium | mat blue | 11739-797 love the simplicity

Khaki Field Auto | H70455553 lighter leather band, like a beige color

Red Dial Stainless Steel Bracelet Jet Star 96B401 | Bulova hopefully that leads to it

Another one, and have kinda narrowed it down to this:

And the promaster dive (green face, not SST)

I know Citizen has some aviation themed watches, Blue Angels and such, but I could have sworn they used to have one that had an image of the SR-17 printed on the face.

Needs a link taken out, but it's really nice. I like it! And the scuba tank presentation is a nice touch.

It needs time set and to sit in the sun to "charge".

Still the watch i have. I also have a galaxy watch that I rarely use.. I bought it on impulse a few years ago. Supposedly counts steps but when riding in a dump truck bouncing at 65 mph it somehow thinks those are steps that I walked fast as a mofo
When I bother to wear a watch the citizen like above is what i wear.
And by the way, I thought my arm was hairy.. there's some fuckin apes in here :flipoff2:

I bought a seiko 5 last year I love. I really like automatics and would like to try to start rebuilding them at some point.

The other one I have that needs a battery is an old wenger very similar to this with just a gun metal finish and cloth strap.

I really like the seikos and would like to get a couple more 5s of different colors, a presage and grand seiko. I'd also like to get into the more vintage seikos with a captain Willard and some of the train watches. I'm trying to get a tag heuer from work if I get get enough Schrute bucks 😆

I just put a $100 pre-sale deposit on this.

I’m a slut for the old school seiko watches. I actually got the reissue Arnie and the bracelet sucked but I put it on an uncle seiko strap and love it. It’s solar powered which is cool. I’ve got a 1981 golden Tuna that is probably my favorite watch.

nearly $10k watch at good will .com

current bid is under $2k with under 2 days to go

it's amazing what gets donated to goodwill some times
I’ve watched a few pretty expensive watches sell on there and they all seem to creep up near a typical used price so you’re not getting much of a deal. Most of them look pretty hammered too. There was one auction for a display box that had like $30k of watches in it that they pulled after someone finally figured out what they had.

typically, yeah. I find the best deals on the just above cheap market  too big of a name and it draws people looking for that thing, too cheap and it's just trash at the goodwill point.
