I have a 94-97ish dodge nv4500 with the integrated shift tower. I want a short throw shifter.

Is it as simple as swapping a ~$200 cover? Or was everything changed just so I hate engineers more?

This is true. I looked at doing the swap from what I’ve read it’s just the cover and shifter. And several diesel pullers had swapped back said it shifted like shit afterwards and was harder. Those trannys just don’t shifter fast.

No they have a sort of dwell I suppose its called, its not a ford top loader or a M22 muncie.

Dwell means a hesitation in something moving.

Dictionary

TECHNICAL

a slight regular pause in the motion of a machine.

The shifter on my NV4500 is world shorter and faster than the T19 it replaced haha. I couldn't imagine needing shorter throw in a truck.

Ok. So wtf does that have to do with this?

Why are you bringing up transmissions that dont use intergrated shifters?

I looked into this as I bought my 4500 minus the shifter / shift stub and decided to just stick with the integrated shift tower and buy a shift stub from torqueking as they were the only option to ship to Canada. In hindsight I wish I had upgraded to the bolt on tower as 6 months in the shift stub snapped in half and if I had gone bolt on It would have open more options for replacement parts

A short throw shifter isn't gonna make it shift any faster. :flipoff2:

Not the point, dont care. I want the shorter throw for packaging in a spot where a 4500 was never meant to be

And the above, the option/parts for the bolt on seem plentiful as well.

I have a bolt on shifter and handle somewhere, but no idea how to tell gm from dodge.

Here's how much throw a bolt on shift tower (top cover has) without the short throw shift kit.

That's about 1.5" of movent at the bottom of the cane.

yes the covers exchange. see how simple it was to just answer a question?:smokin:

As I understand it the late SM465 top cover is very close to the same distance from the bellhousing as the 1995 or so top cover / shift stub.

Again, wtf does that have to do with this?
This is for the jeep, right? The SM465 is a pretty tried and true swap. So if it works and the shifter is in roughly the same place as your garbage then your garbage should work too.
