No Electricity for you this weekend

Wish they'd do that shit around here... I've owned my property for going on 25 years and the last time the right-of-way was cleared was before I bought the land. If APCO had done their [censored] job and cleared the right-of-way I know of at least a dozen times I >wouldn't< have lost power. It's always a tree down or a branch shorting out the line... :mad3: :flipoff:

:flipoff2:
So Edison clears a 12' swath in high fire areas, but a 75' eucalyptus tree outside that falls over and takes out a power line, not defending or arguing, but it happens, and here in Ca the tree huggers dont want the trees trimmed, but also don't want the power off (Malibu, Sierra Madre) but scream bloody murder and point the finger any time a fire breaks out.

At one point they were setting taller poles at millions of dollars to avoid trimming, then they scream about high rates. :laughing:

PG&E is a for profit entity and runs like one. They had decrepit transmission lines that literally begged almost guaranteed a fire under the right conditions. Those conditions happen every damn year over and over. Fix the damn power lines so they don’t blow down and murder people by incineration. They pocketed $$ for their shareholders and gawd knows what else.
Back in the 90s PG&E used to buy our family a chinese takeout dinner 4 times a year when I was a kid. Those stocks haven paid shit for dividends in a long time. I think my great-grandmother bought them originally and they've been passed down since.

<snip>

they have looked at burying the lines here locally (currently not feasible)
and just this last month, they have started a program to inventory EVERY tree that if it fell is within striking distance of the power line.
on my property alone about 100 trees were measured and recorded. (2 were determined to be current hazards and marked for removal/ trimming)
They did similar here last year. I forget how many small trees got dropped but they hit six bigger trees. I talked with the inspectors and guys felling trees. I told them to nuke anything questionable on one side of the road with poles and confirm on other side with house. No issues and pleasant to deal with.

Do they not do maintenance trimming there? Here the PC comes through every few years and blows out any and every tree within their ROW or easements. They'll knock down every limb and hit the ground with forestry mowers. Kind of funny seeing trees in people's front yards complete blow apart around the lines, but still otherwise intact. :laughing:
I've never seen anything from PGE with any regularity on two houses in the county. 10+ years at one house... and a tree did fall on the line to the house:eek: Granted, rugged/steep terrain. I think I got a notice for inspections this year.

6+ years at current house and last year was first clearing of trees. PGE didn't really do any 'ground mowing'. There is another gov't paid program that will go through this year to 'ground mow' for wildfire related reasons. My yard is reasonable but has taken off the last two years:homer:

Out of curiosity...
Since natural started fires are a real thing (lightning etc.) does the "incineration" of residents change due to the source of the ignition?

Is a fire more deadly if started from a power line?
