Bid on this beauty sight unseen , remains to be seen if I did ok or not. 2 of the drums are missing and I want to find out if replacements are available. I didnt measure the drums but I think they are at least 12 inches, I have never seen drums with bolts protruding outside of the wheel mounting bolts before. Pattern is 5x5.5 I think but i would get 8 lug if available for all 4. 4 inch drop and approx 69 inches wms to wms and were shortened. 11 leafs per pack and all the hanger bolts are 7/16 or 5/8. Rear spring has the Z shapped shackle in the front and a standard shackle in the rear. Pics to follow.

You might have clearance issues between tires and fenderwells with an upgrade to 8 lug, in addition the bearing spindle may not accept the 8 lug hub bearings.

I also attempted to do the 8 lug bit but had clearance issues tire to fenderwell.

Looks usable to me. That's pretty cool the way the spindle caps thread off.
What was your winning bid?

What’s the overall length?

that equalizer is interesting.

Those are similar to the setup I built a RZR trailer out of recently. I was told they are older mobile home axles. The bolts protruding through the drum are so you can replace the wear area where the brake magnet runs. Seals and bearings for mine were readily available.

I like the magnet setup on the brakes, lots more surface area.

Are the shoes 1 piece?

Those look like old travel trailer axles, 3,500#'ers from the 70s/early 80s, I wouldn't expect you could get 8 lug hubs that will go on a 3500 spindle...

kind of like this which I think came in a 5lug flavor too, but I could be wrong

If they are like derp posted, they are Dayton axles probably. I agree, they are trailer house axles. I’ve never seen a drop mobile home axle.

That interesting equilizer.

I wonder if it reduces/eliminates the shackles flipping over at the equilizer when you curb jump.

I paid 130 plus the auction fees, so probably a little over 150. Bed is 52x93 with maybe a 4ft tongue. Backing plates held on by 5 bolts if that matters to help identify. Lug bolts not studs. I will do some research on Dayton axles, that makes sense to me. Equalizers are strange but I don't understand why there are so many different types of those. FWIW that system must have worked ok to have lasted all these years, it does look quite stout. Ive never seen an 11 leaf pack before, the leafs are all different lengths so i doubt that is cobbled up. Plenty of grease on the assembled axle ends but it wont turn I am sure the drums are frozen. Short term plan is to get it moving for a yard project, that might end up being the axles removed and a single 72 inch D70 welded in. Long term probably a small hydraulic dump trailer, maybe using a pickup bed dump insert, That would be very handy for me.

The leaf packs appear to be the same but your brakes are more modern. Where did you find the parts? I am not getting anywhere with a search using DDG, will go Google

FWIW the brake lining is 1 piece and the diameter is about 12 inches or slightly less.

I see the difference in the brakes now. Same 5 lugs on the backing plate. I pulled the numbers off the bearings and seals. Easy Amazon to my door. Brakes look new but rebuilt long ago. Lots of rust on the steel.

Could probably flip it to spring over to get the clearance for bigger tires. Or even go to a straight axle.

FWIW the lug pattern on my axle is 6 on 5.5, which has turned out to be a modern and common RV lug pattern.

Also a nissan/yota pattern.

My trailer has a goofy 5 on 5 or something that's not at all common compared to the 5 on 4.5 that just about every other trailer uses. Learned the hard way when I borrowed a friends spare for a trip and actually needed it.....that's when we learned how to swap tires on rims in a walmart parking lot.

Frozen drums came off with very little Frozen drums came off with very little drama. Had to order 9/16 fine thread from McMaster cut down to three inch pieces to hold that wheel spacer everything inside his obvious light Rost but it all looks like it could be reconditioned.

Backing plates also came off very easily. Inner Spindel appears to be 1.5 in nominal diameter, and outer spindle appears to be one in nominal diameter. I am not familiar with normal hub bearing sizes and spacing, does this look like anything's standard to you guys?

The bearing size is the same as mine. Spindle looks the same length but I didn't measure mine.

Grab some numbers off the bearings and seal.
