What's new

New Bronco reports

So as usual, the Facebook groups are full of dorks excited about there, new badge or tire cover they installed and not any help with technical whatnots.

Trying to figure out wheel options. Note- this does not have the Squatch package on it just a badlands.

what offset wheels are needed to run 37s with the inch and a quarter lift along with removing the crash bars

I tried a bunch and whatever my racelines are is the only combination ive found. Ill measure them later.

You will also need to remove the fender flairs and the little molded plastic piece bolted to the floorboard behind your inner fender... then tec screw the fender liner back.... and go with a 12.50 and not 13.50

Ill assume my dimensions were right

If I was looking for a budget option id look at the method beadgrips. Seem to be the cheapest decent wheel with deep offset options

I’ve been pretty happy with them, but I did lose an inner bead on my last trip. Probably should have done the duct tape on the rim trick.

For the love of God; charge your battery!!1!

well fuck. I have no self control. Fox 2.5 kit on the way. Installed an orange rear sway bar.

Next will be the upgraded steering rack I suppose.

Fyi you loose significant travel with the fox coilovers... you should strongly consider other options

Did your spacers show up yet?

Be super carefull with your cvs, if you pull them apart your fucked. That happened to mine doing exactly what you have in your picture.

2big bronco how do you lose travel with the fox coilovers? any links to this?

negative on the spacers, and the cvs are good they are pushed most of the way through the unit bearing.

The bodys of the shocks are a solid 2" longer the stock and considerably longer then other options. Your down travel is limited to everything binding and you loose 2" of uptravel. Thats how they can advertise "clear 37s with no problems"... because your wheel no longer goes to the top of the wheel well

Interesting. uniball uca to give more down travel, less up but same overall travel? Or are Kings the way to go then?

Did some looking and accutune was having to put a droop limiter spacer on the kings due to people breaking cv shafts.

So, you are saying that it has a built in bump stop? :grinpimp:

Read through this thread, there is a lot of good info: Some stock suspension calculations and measurements

To sum it up though, the aftermarket coil overs are longer than the stock struts, so you lose compression travel with most of them. Down travel is limited by the CVs binding and blowing up the stock steering tie rods and racks. You can only get an inch or two more down travel than stock before you start to get in trouble, and a lot of the axle and steering failures happen due to people with excessive downtravel from spacer lifts.

Man, lots of good information there. From else I’m reading I’m kind of happy with the results The foxes will give without having to worry about blowing up CV shafts. No interest in rcvs. This will only do lame trails and the mall.

Has there been any trend toward solid axle swaps on these?

It doesnt really seem like it, and im not sure I see the benefit unless going +40s on the tires.
It looks like standard F150 ifs stuff or similar under these things, 8.8, etc. Is it really holding up to 37s?

Probably depends on what your wheeling style is. I feel like mine gets used/wheeled moderately hard (I wouldnt seconed guess following a jk on 37s anywhere) for a new vehicle and I havnt had any issues in 2 years.

Dirtyjed and his crew have a shit ton of miles in broncos on 37s... Any significant drivetrain issues that wouldnt happen in a jk or anything else?

I hear that the trail turning feature has been busting the spot welds on the rear axle tubes. Not good Ford, not good.....

If true, that's a pretty easy preventative fix.

So, you're saying he has trussed issues?

(sorry, a horrible dad joke popped in my head & I chose to put that evil on you :flipoff2:)

I don't think the RCVs really get you any more angle than stock. The only way to effectively get more than an inch or two over stock is to increase compression travel or widen the track. You should start a build thread over in the Ford section. It would be nice to get some more new Bronco content going and maybe attract more of the hard core 6G users over here.

The Del Fab Bronco that was built right after the Broncos came out is the only one I am aware of, and it was pretty much just a SEMA build to be the "first" solid axle Bronco. From what I understand, it was poorly integrated and had a lot of computer issues they never resolved.

The Electric rack is the biggest hurdle to getting a solid axle in one and keeping the computer happy. I don't think anyone has solved it unless you go the racecar route like JR4X and do a standalone engine/tranny management and scrap the factory electronics.

I doubt it would be that hard to just run the electric ram on the axle with some fancy steering coumn slip linkage going to it. That combined with the proper wheel speed sensors and everything should play nice.

They replaced my axle under warranty when I broke mine.

As far as 37''s go the steering rack needs to be upgraded with at least the aftermarket bushing. All of us have the bushing and housing even on the Hoss 3.0 rack.
popo_patty has taken apart a few racks to show what the internals look like and how they work on his YouTube channel.

It's a good idea to upgrade tie rods as well. Stock ones are pretty weak, though some people use them as a fusable link to save the steering housing.

And if you have a soft top get this:

That was the first topic of weakness on the new Bronco discussed here.:eek:

I forgot which thread; but it was discussed rather in depth/detail.
