What's new

new 7.3 gas ford

I love it when I hear about people buying $100k (CAD) trucks. It means that in 15 years or so I will be able to buy a $100k truck for $10K with all the bugs already worked out :smokin:.

In the current market it means you'll be able to buy $60k clapped out trucks... That are now 15 years old.

that dually has the motor work done, but I want a platinum single wheel long bed with the sunroof. I'm spoiled after the last 5 or 6 rigs.

Why are so many people scared of electronics? Afraid you’ll have to learn something/buy more tools in order to service it?

All I think when someone bitches about these “damn modern vehicles with all the electronic shit!” is I bet guys were bitching when vehicles when from carbs to fuel injection too, thinking it was the end of “backyard mechanics” being able to work on cars…yeah how’d that work out? 30+years later and you can still work on your own shit, just have to keep up with the times and OMG learn something new. Fuck that right? Better to stay in your comfort zone and never learn anything new.

Or put your money where your mouth is and strictly drive older vehicles. Most that complain about modern vehicles don’t do either… :flipoff2:
You're a presumptuous fuck. Working on them has nothing to do with it for me. It's the frequency of issues. Yeah some of the features are cool. ...but I like having control.

I compare them to cell phones. You pay good $$ for the damn thing it should at least feel like it's yours.

...And too many damn un protected wires floating around under the chassis ond on the axles waiting for ground squirrels, branches and what not IMHO.

And fuck the Chevy electric tail gates.

Just be careful, ford trucks have notoriously shitty sunroof mechanisms over the last few years

I ordered a F450 middle of October and it is going to show up at the dealer next week. I told the dealer that I can't take delivery of it until middle of January at the earliest.

dealer info plz?
Granger Ford in Iowa. 2% under invoice. Build it out on Ford.com and email the build to [email protected] for a quote. It’s worth it for me to fly in and driver it home for that cost savings…especially when local dealers won’t budge off MSRP and are adding an adjusted market value on top of that. There was an approx 1400-2k increase starting December 8th due to increase in materials costs supposedly. I got mine in before that point though.

Here is a link to the thread on another site that Granger posted this offer on. Granger Ford.

I have 3, all cc 4x4 lbs, 50k miles between the three of them. Averaging 14 mpg, high of 17 on a 1500 mile highway trip.

I don't mind the tranny, all of mine shift like butter but they do shift a ton. Heaviest tow was a skid steer at about 15k and it didn't seem to mind it at all.

Informative opinion; thanks for sharing.

Do you deal with hills/mountain grade roads much?

I would love to know how it handles them with that specific engine/tranny combo.

I get Xplan pricing if my dealer will honor it. so I will wait and see. after reading that other site thread looks like its a wash price wise.

I don't run grades often its pretty flat here we have hills but thats about it. However going up and down 77 in nc/va it's 4% for 6 miles or so, thats the steepest we have on the east coast. Pulling a trailer full of random odds and ends from inlwas house when they sold (7k) didn't slow down at all and I was running at 72-75.

I've been looking here and there for used ones for a bit. I looked today, and probably 3/4 were dually's. I have to wonder if they really sold that many, or if all the guys really pulling weight are going back to diesel?

Maybe I'm over analyzing it, but it seemed a little odd to me.

Resale scares me.

Not just lower than diesel resale but drastically lower is my worry.
It's a $8500 premium I think comparing diesel to 7.3 not sure there is enough difference there for me to not get the diesel.

I looked a 7.3 platinum dually last year in Silver Spruce, couldn't do that color but I was really surprised to see a platinum 7.3, not sure why though really

The engine has a torque curve similar to a '02 7.3 power-stroke so with a 10 speed it should be really bad ass IMO.

Just got back from a 4K round trip out to ND. Averaged 16.1mpg. Truck performed flawless. Only did 1.5 mpg better in my 19’ Ram 1500.

I have a feeling that the 7.3 specifically will have good resale. Well, as long as it's reputation stays going like it is now.

I still question an n/a engine at high altitude. It can only do so much when the air gets thin. It was very noticeable on my 2018 6.2 company truck.

This is my assumption as well. Especially with how expensive modern Diesels are to maintain. The 7.3 was supposedly made for the medium duty market. Dont know what thread but someone has a video of making 1k plus hp with a set of turbos on a stock engine.

A low boost (8-10 psi) turbo set up would be sweet.

Hexk, even the 5.0 can get pretty near that with some boost

is that towing or running empty? if towing then weight and trailer style? how fast were you driving?

My '15 CCSB 4wd Cummins might get 18 at 75 mph empty but with the extra charge for diesel, DEF and engine upcharge it's not cheaper to drive at all unless towing heavy which we all know.

My toyhauler is 10k gross on the axles, square as a cracker box and if I pull it at 75 i am getting 8mpg. if the 7.3 could do the same speed and get 7 it might pencil out to be cheaper. Diesel emissions issues scare the shit out of me. already had the DEF Cat replaced on mine just before warranty ran out.
