Kinda sucks.

It's Ripley's, Gay Dolphins, air brush shirts, and for some inexplicable reason ninja/samurai stuff everywhere.

Here for a conference, in the overflow hotel by the beach. Wish I cared in the slightest about the beach. Colleagues want to go to Top Golf :shaking:, I can do that at home.

Any recommendations that aren't over commercialized tourist trap vomit to do here? Historical stuff to see? I like aquariums, the fact that this one is is a Ripley's aquarium gives me pause, is it any good, or is it mermaids and Loch Ness Monster stupidity?

Any good restaurants? Bummz Beach and River Town Grill were both underwhelming. Bummz was the closest thing not fast food still open near by last night.

There used to be a few good restaurants in Murrells Inlet but I havent been up there in a few years. Same with Pawleys Island. Sorry.

I'm semi local(North Myrtle Beach), Ripley's aquarium is actually pretty cool, I'd say it's worth checking out, even if it is somewhat kid oriented. Myrtle is kinda something you just have to accept for what it is. Not as terrible as people make it out to be but I'm baffled that people come back year after year. About the only things I go into myrtle for anymore is to take the kid to the aquarium in the off season, eat at a few select restaurants and to hit Palmetto State Armory

PSA is on my agenda, I'll probably be ditching the conference at some point to venture over there. My presentation is tomorrow, and the rest is gravy.

Care to divulge the "few select restaurants?"

There's a mexican spot in a strip mall down there that is pretty kick ass for a lunch spot if you're into that, Tu Taco. As recommended above, Hook and Barrel is good but for the ultimate in fine dining The Library is incredible, would need a reservation though.

There's a really good sushi joint in Murrells inlet, can't remember the name though, it's on the ocean side of the highway south of the Publix in a teal strip mall sorta building.

Nothing good in MB. Went there for a job conference, and remembered why I had not been there in MANY years.

Dicks can be fun if you have a crowd. Would not recommend less than 4 people though.

Something so stupid as to going to an overpriced under mediocre restaurant with the only reason for the servers to make fun of you being the only place I look forward to going to down there. And they have gators.

Place was absolutely rockin back in the 90's.

I could write a wall of text but tourism destinations like that are only fun if you're some vapid basic bitch who just wants to do the shit to say they did and spend the money to say they did.

There is no real fun to be had anywhere waspy Karens buy vacation houses. You want fun, go somewhere low brow.

Did you bring fishing gear?

if your up for a minor road trip, Scotts BBQ in Hemingway has been on my want to do list for a while. It’s about an hour away.

We stayed at a VRBO on Surfside Beach a couple years ago and really liked it there. Myrtle is definitely a shit hole these days.
There's a BBQ joint in Surfside called Gracious Pig that's really good. I had breakfast there one morning, Shrimp and grits over homemade biscuits. Kind of a take on biscuits and gravy. Benjamin's Bakery is good too.
For sights and such, go to Huntington Beach State Park and walk the trails. Quiet and really peaceful.
Myrtle Beach State Park has some decent hiking trails too.

Become Kenny mother fucking powers for a day.

This times 40 I can't wait to get back to Scott's but be aware it is different than what NC BBQ is

Unless you're into heroin or meth, the best part of myrtle is 501 heading northbound right the fuck out of that shithole.
Or head south to Surfside or Murrells Inlet. I’d pay $20 to watch a hurricane fuck Myrtle Beach to death and wipe that whole shit stain drug riddled third-world city off the coast and let them start over. Fuck that place.

I ate at Rioz Brazilian steakhouse because I had a coupon. It was absolutely better than anything on the broadway at the beach. I was constrained to walking distance from there. People watching was incredible though.

Go people watching and play a drinking game.

Every time you see a woman under 40ish with mom jeans cut into short wedgie shorts take a shot.
Take another shot if they misuse the word literally.

Should provide to be a good time.:flipoff2:

I had the same reservations about the aquarium being Ripley’s branded and wondering if it was a gimmick, but it’s actually a legit aquarium with some very cool exhibits & tunnel tanks. The $40 ticket price is a little steep, but I didn’t feel like it was a total ripoff when exiting.

Oh Dirty Myrtle... How I hate thee... If you have a couple hours to kill, Wheels of Yesteryear car museum is worth a visit. Private collection of a NC tobacco farmer. Has a pretty impressive Mopar collection.

You will need a reservation, but Malibu of Surfside has some good Italian food.

Or head up north, across the state line to Calabash.
