Never have had a problem with mine, always gets me on paper.

every time I loaded it, the laser would appear at a different location on the paper.

Cheap laser rounds suck. A bore site laser is where it's at and you can rotate it to see if the laser is pointing off someway wonky.

So for my education, a slug gun is just a shot gun with rifling? Ive never shot my shot gun more than 30 yds. (If that) What kind of increase (decrease) in group would you expect with a slug gun vs a smooth bore? What exactly is the ideal situation for a slug gun vs some other weapon? (Shot gun or otherwise)

I just wanted something different, that I could use for deer/bear, have decent options for optics if I wanted to, and not have to invest in another caliber. As well as a caliber that was somewhat available- which I'm seeing Sabots can be selective on where you go. I know for 30-30 there was nothing for a long time.

I can't speak on accuracy though. I'm curious on grouping as well. I have a 50yed setup in they were all landing on the "inner circle" of the paper. And I'm a shit shot too.
