What's new

More stupidity from California (San Francisco)

Everyone’s too busy smoking crack and taking shits on the sidewalks to be speeding in traffic. :flipoff2:
It was car to car. Maybe some speeding getting up to the bridge, but after that stopping was more of a problem.

Just got my notice that I need to register for the 11% Firearms Excise Tax and submit quarterly reports…

Bill Text - AB-28 Firearms and ammunition: excise tax.

thats 100% built to try and put you and all California gun manufacturers out of business.

i just wish the gun manufacturers would get together and REFUSE to sell and distribute to any state or federal agency in California. That would bring the LAPD and all other large departments to their knees with a quickness.

“The commissioner may, in the commissioner’s discretion, authorize the disabling of an intelligent speed limiter system in any vehicle if, based on the specialized usage of the vehicle, the disabling of the system is reasonable, practical, and would not pose a risk to public safety,” the bill’s text reads.

What do you want to bet the commissioner’s car will be one of the “specialized usage” vehicles? Mayors, governors, their friends and relatives. And of course, their political donors.

They will never do it. Revenue generated from speeding tickets would be destroyed. They will never do that

Why do you think they made it 10 over instead of the speed limit?
So that they can continue to generate (some of) that revenue. And since they are tracking you all the time, and will have the ability to know when you are speeding, the tickets will be automatically generated and mailed to you. The 1xx,xxx X increase in 10mph over tickets, will greatly surpass the loss of 50mph over tickets.:flipoff:

so it limits the speeds to +10 for the area it's in. which means they are gonna need GPS trackers on them to know the given speed limit. not a back door way to track the local population or anything.
Ever been in a new car :P?
My wife's Bronco Sport has the auto drive stuff, the camera just reads the speed limit signs on the side of the road.
It's awful.

What does it do it there is no speed limit sign? If i start it up and leave the house, I can drive probably 50 miles without seeing a sign if I plan the roads right.

Agree - stop selling fucking cars in CA

What about when off road?

The speed limit signs are very easily defaced or otherwise vandalized. Can of opaque spray paint for example. At some point, some boy wonder hacker would break into whatever needs violation and have his way with the tracing reporting bullshit. That would be epic. Someone will also figure out a way to cloud or obstruct the car's signal or access to the signal, defeating the tracking. At least I would hope so.

Seeing as how the average Californian generally drives at least 15 over the speed limit on the highway, I don't see this bill getting any traction.

I mean what does the fucking system do when there's not a posted speed limit for your area, ie in a mud hole spinning tires 60 mph, cutting donuts at back 40 etc

On my wife's new car it doesn't change anything. It will flash a speed limit sign icon with the posted limit or nothing if it can't "see" a sign but will not change the set speed. This happens weather it is in adaptive cruise or regular old cruise modes. 2024 Honda CRV hybrid FWIW.

How in the fuck are you going to pass someone on a windy 2 lane with the short passing areas given? Going to be lots of head ons from impatient drivers sending it.

Honestly this is accurate.

Also a "proposed bill" hasn't even made it to ways and means committees, etc. All these looney bills die there. Newsome would veto this also, he's taken a turn to the center with 2028 on his mind.

I've only been there to visit someone in the hospital. I was never there to fuck around.
I was born there and visited my grandparents there often. There was a time in the 90s where you could always find a race with an import car. I had a bullshit, Firebird Camaro and a Mustang at various times. They would seek you out.

Fixxered.

Only STL county in MO does smog checks as far as I know.
Pretty much. They call it "the STL area" in some docs:

I recall the state government eliminating statewide testing and leaving it up to counties. Something about how MO meets air standards without testing and the testing programs are a financial burden. Common sense, who'd have thought, right?

Same here, and that's why I posted it's not feasible with today's tech. Claims otherwise are just so much bullshit.
