What's new

More inflation - new tires edition

A vast majority of people don't care what brand is on there, they are going to put the cheapest tire they can get at Discount Tire / Walmart TLE / Les Schwab when the time comes.
I am not sure I agree with this...

have you walked around in a parking lot recently?
people don't pay any attention to their tires.
When I see a 15 year old car with michelins on it I know that person is one of us.
same with people around here with actual winter tires. That person knows WTF is up.

edit:
full disclosure, I cheaped out on the last set of all seasons I put on the work beater. Ironman it was. So far they're decent, but they're obviously inferior in all aspects to any of the good tires I have on the rest of the cars.
Shit, I'm about to spend 1500 to replace near new pirelli's on the wife's volvo just because I fucking hate them. I hated them on the last volvo too. How pirelli is still making the exact same fucking tire for volvo for the last 20 years I don't understand, they're shit. The wet traction is terrible and they're noisy AF on the highway.

I guess maybe i haven't paid enough attention? Most of the people in my expended circle seem to care... 🤷

nothing but bald mismatched shit on 50% of the cars. 40% are still new enough to be on their OE tires. 10% have decent matching tires on anything older than 6-7 years.

just my anecdotal observations.

I have a bad habit about judging folks based upon their tires. I look at everyone's tires in parking lots as I walk past, and I see more Chinese shit on vehicles than name brand these days.

Ever look at used tires on FB marketplace? There's a lot of Chinese crap up there, too. In order in my area, a search for tires on FBMP brings up Falken, Vercelli, Ironman, Pathfinder, Mismatch of Bald Firestone and half-worn "Trail Guide," Ironman again, bald Pro Comp, bald Hankook, 3 cracked and one blown "Parnelli" ("make an offer, I hate to scrap them"), and bald Toyos. Those were the first 10 non-snow/winter tire ads I pulled up where the brand was legible.

Yeah, people care about what tires they put on.:flipoff2:

the falken's I've had were not shit. My 510s were made in japan proper.
but now they're 90% of the cost of fucking PS4s, so the value they had 3 years ago is lost and I may as well buy michelin again.
The ironmans haven't been terrible but I've only got 5K on them. They're not quiet and they're certainly not the best performing tire, but it's a 20 year old volvo work beater and I couldn't bring myself to spend a grand on tires for a car worth 1500 dollars. I knew what I was doing, which is more than I can say about most people just slapping the cheapest tires on their shit without any care to performance. IIRC they were made in mexico.
I refuse to buy chinese tires.

Talking to a guy in management that spent a month at our.... uh.... a plant in Mehico- you're 5% better off getting the tire from Chyna.

Off topic- they do the crescendo bird whistle through the plant like in Training Day when management de Los americana walks through.

Just checked, i bought a set of 35” falken mts about the time the jl came out for 153/tire and now they are 320.

At least theyre not full on communists.

example of dirt cheap take-offs. not a ton of life, but i'm sure you'd get 10k more out of them on a beater. on wheels. balanced. for $100

gotta be the worst wearing tires ever. I have never seen a set not cup terribly

I haven't had an issue. I rotate them once a year when I switch from summer to winter and back. So they go about 10-15k between rotations.
