What's new

More inflation - new tires edition

You're presenting logic to a dumbass. For the last 3 months I continue to say I'm going to do it after work. Then I see something shiny and forget until the next day. So I roll down the back window, pull out the air hose, and pump it up.
well I can't fault that.

glass houses and so on.

What about generic tires built in Tiawan offered through Priority tire and the like? Are they made with shit rubber, slave labor, not round, unbalanceable, or possibly all the above? In a 265/75/16 flavor they are $100 or more cheaper than say a bridgestone, bfg or yokohama.

generally

kenda car tires I've mounted 2/4 were ply-separated from the factory

Every low end tire I've driven on a vehicle I've owned has been shit. Either they have zero wet traction, wear fast are near impossible to keep balanced. We see customers continue to buy the cheapest POS tires that'll hold air come back with issues all the time.

About a month ago I got (4) 31x10.5-15 Goodyear Wrangler Authority ATs for my EB for $700 ($160/tire + taxes & fees) out the door at Wal-Mart.
My shitbox XJ needs new tires and its going to be just under $1400 for (4) 35x12.5-15 Falken Wildpeak ATs. 3 years ago I got the same tires for my wife's JKU, in 17", for just under $1100.
are these loud?

I am considering these tires for my wifes Cruiser.

I have read that they are kind of loud.

Nether are particularly loud but the GY is made specifically for Walmart to sell. They have thin sidewalls and do not seem to be quality tires.

Sigh..

Trying to limp these goodyear 275/70R18's to 50k, got about 3 to go. Left front leaks about 10 psi a week, Ive put one patch in it, turns out previous owner had two more in it:lmao:. Dude didnt rotate them much Either I guess. Ive got the near baldies on the back now

Depressing looking back for similar size tire set in 2017 6-800.

Prices from local shop. Wife dead set against me picking up a set of takeoffs:homer:

She wants it not to look like a pawpaw truck, strictly a want.

Im fine with and $800 set of michelin or bridgestone takeoffs, yes larger will look cooler but costs more up front and in fuel....

To answer your question, in my 20's with single money...yes.

Now, no. Bought this truck used, tires almost needed replaced then, dude didnt keep em rotated for shit. Ive kept em rotated with right air and put another 14k on em, and two fuckin patches:mad3:

When i bought my first set of 39.5x18 boggers from national tire and wheel in late 90's they were 327 ea....Now Im paying more than that for a goddam 35" AT:flipoff::flipoff::flipoff:federal gov you fuckin theives:mad3:

Shiiiit... I'd seriously look for a set of takeoffs at those prices.

Hell, the same tires on my truck are $254 + installation each, so easily $1200 (Wrangler Territory 275/65R18 ATs). Heck, I just did a quick search and found the exact same wheels with a set of Michelin Defender LTX on them for $350. $800 for a set with new Wrangler ATS. $750 with almost new Wrangler Adventures.

Yeah., I'd seek a deal somewhere and have a spare set of wheels to put snow tires on.

I hear that quite often with all Walmart products from tires to guns but I've not had that experience myself.

Not surprised given the price.

I was considering them anyway because they are at least name brand. And at the price I could get wheels and tires, instead of just tires.

Yeah, tire prices are insane. I always check FB Marketplace first. Picked up practically new BFG ATs for my 4Runner recently for $750. So many people end up buying tires then wanting to go bigger or maybe wanting to go smaller because they're rubbing or they end up not liking the rougher ride or a little bit of road noise or whatever. Seems like if you're patient you can always find a good deal for half price within a couple weeks.

May end up doing it, who knows. Keep in mind the prices above are installed out the door incl tax etc.

Wasn't there a irate4x4 member that worked for a tire mfg here? Trying to remember which mfg it was as it's time to buy some new tires for my taco and if I'm gonna give all my money to a company, it might as well be one that employs someone I know.

Well they buy in bulk so 🤷‍♂️

I'm just saying that has not been my experience. Yours may differ.

Where's 45....he builds tires. Maybe he can shed some light.

That would be 45acp , but I don’t recall whom he works for.

I have started running Mil surplus 37x12.50 16.5 load range E MTRs on my second gen shipping crate , been getting them with 90% tread for $115 a tire.

I make decent money , but a brand new set of 37s is simply too expensive for me. Going to run used military MTRs long as I can get em.

people around here are fuckin crazy
