Austin... TX? Nope. Minnesota!
I want MOAR. More usable power, more usable RPM in my 98 F800. I know jack and shit about modding diesels, my performance enhancements have always been on gas engines. I know this is probably the most tweaked platform out there, so this should be simple. This is what I have vs what I want:

1998 12 Valve 5.9 ISB 210 hp 440 tq. 2500-ish governor, whatever miserly fuel plate in the P7100, stock turbo.

Want:

Tranny good to 660 lb-ft or so, therefore it would probably be wise to keep the power limited to that range. However many HP, 650-ish tq.

What is the most economical route to achieve this without sacrificing reliability? I was thinking different fuel plate (no idea what number to order), 3k GSK. Might have to do a hybrid turbo (been reading some there, like an HX35/40 hybrid?), but I don't know what the limitations are on the stock unit. Will do the KDP, and possibly play with the pump timing at the same time (not sure how far to take that, either). I would LOVE to see the powerband kick in below 1800 rpm, where the bottom of it currently sits.

This is all "winter project" stuff, I'd try to fit it in one of my bays with the shop door closed and tear into it. no rush, no deadline. The goal is to hit decent numbers, improve the driving experience, and spend the least amount of coin possible.

I got 94 with a fuel plate, 3kgsk, 300k stock turbo, boost elbow(32lbs boost) k&n and banks exh and i make 400hp/800ft lbs. So your going to want a bit more from your trans i think. I think you should plan on removing the head to prep for more boost and avoid that pesky hg seep at the r/f corner that can turn into a real headache.

For me reliability is king and i dont plan on going for more performance. I am going to junk the stock lift pump and heater/filter in favor of a fass one of these days.

Get some govenor springs and afclive from power dirven diesel. It will make a huge difference and is adjustable.

Fuel plate only comes into play at wot better off doing afc live. Do you drive it in the winter and does anyone else drive it? I would bump timing a bit if you don't drive in the winter and do a 4k gsk if you only drive it 3k if other people do. Poverty twins are a good idea to keep Temps down. Would also do studs I've had luck with the $250 ebay ones. Probably want a pyro and a boost gauge just to keep an eye on things and help with tuning. Do you know what turbo is on it now?

What are the plans for the truck? If I remember correctly its a big flat bed.

I have a bunch or random b series stuff in the back shed. I can pull dimensions and see if I have anything you might need.

That's more than I plan... cut the gains in half. Instead of going 210/440 to 400/800, I am fine with 300/600 or 325/650 or so.

Adjustable? Externally? Would the bracketry right above the pump in my MDT interfere (not much clearance)?

Hmm... WOT... You mean how I have to drive it as it is? LOL. What is AFC live?

No winters. Just need it to be able to start and run in the winter, but I don't plan on driving it much, if at all. And I am the only driver... my wife won't drive anything bigger than her XC90.

I'm not sure I want to mess with studs, as I've heard of several people breaking off head bolts when they try to remove them (most recently the episode of Roadkill where they broke one off when trying to stud a 12 valve that was dropped in a Gran Torino Wagon). Eventually I'd like to get more gauges, but I need to figure out how to keep my oil pressure gauge working for more than a week at a time, too (shit ass Chinesium sending units from Napa). I have no clue what the stock turbo is on this thing right now, I'd have to go look for some numbers.

Plans for the short term are just a tow rig. Long term? I'd like to mount a huge slide-in up front, hack off the headache rack, put a 4' beaver out back, and haul my Land Cruiser places, with the ability to trailer my buddy's Land Cruiser at the same time.

Afc allows you to tune fueling while you drive.

I would bump the timing to 16-16.5 (stock should be 14) then will net you a bit more throttle response and power without sacrificing anything.

I've never had one snap on me using the ugga dooga gun but I understand the fear. I think deboss garage had a trick of getting them out of they snap but I may be wrong.

Wasn't sure how heavy you would be loaded, but that shouldn't be terrible. Biggest unknown would be the tranny, all mine are manuals.

Can't really recommend anything turbo wise until you figure out what you have.

I would look at the governor spring upgrade, advance timing, and whatever fuel plate stuff (I'm a VE pump guy:homer: ). Beware, the higher the rpm gov spring, the more you need stronger ex-valve springs.

Find out how your turbo compares to a Dodge WH1C or HX35... specs, etc. The Dodge one spools fast thanks to a small 12cm wastegated exhaust housing. Nice and responsive. Cheap used. An F800 likely has a larger ex housing, thus laggy, requiring more fuel to spool (i.e. smoke; a 'rich' AFC adjustment). The trade-off for quick spooling with less fuel, is restriction and heat with heavy loads. (Also not wise to aggressively advance timing with heavy loads.) Depends how you plan to use the rig.
