Frame stiffeners.... Anyone install a mis-matched thicknesses?
Looking at ordering the IRO center section, which is all they offer, and the Trail Forged rear primary set, who don't offer a center section. The IRO are 3/16" thick and the Trail Forged are just less than 1/8". I'll be reinforcing the section around the rear lower control arm mounts between the 2 sets in 1/8" plate.
Intention being to remove interior of frame rail rust by cutting in a couple access holes, mechanically and chemically removing as much rust as possible, then some form of long term rust preventative(yet to be determined.), prior to welding in flush patches into the holes, cold galvanizing weld through primer and paint on both outside of frame rails and interior of frame stiffeners. Then the frame stiffeners on top of frame rails.
My concern with this is the potential for stress risers and cracks at the vertical joints, especially where the frame stiffeners change thickness.
