The home building idea thread got me thinking, how to make an efficient add on to our house for a 5th bedroom/master Suite.

what do you wish you had and don’t? Or have and wish you didn’t?

we have roughly 16x20 to work with. And can keep the current small master bathroom or turn it into a guest bath and add on another. It is the current exterior wall on the end. We are basically adding 3 sides. Our house is L shaped and it makes the L longer.

it would eat into our side yard making access to the rear impossible via vehicle though.

I wish I had a coffee bar with fridge.

(and concealed smoke machine & stripper lights ...... not joking)

edit: I wish I had a sauna built in, next to the master bathroom. The kind with the rocks you throw water on.

Sauna would be nice. I wonder if they make a combo shower sauna steam room? Off to the google

Fireplace between bathroom and master, with options to be open on either side or both

16’x20’ is a bit small presuming that includes the bathroom.

His and hers walk in closets
Dual vanities
Toilet in its own little room
Walk in shower with bench (no tub)
Figure out where to hang towels and TP, put in backer boards
Lots of windows
Good lighting
Ceiling fan
French doors to deck/patio maybe with a hot tub
Place to hang a TV with wiring
Pretty lady to share it with occasionally

Here's the master suite add on we'll be doing eventually. The "her closet" and foyer to the suite is an existing bedroom. Everything the the right of bedroom 2 and bedroom 3 is new. Last picture is what the full bedroom wing of the house would look like.

Where does the TV go?

You getting one of those foot stand with pop up tv?

(I spend at least an hour a day watching tv in bed, having it where I can see and hear is important)

There isn't a TV in the bedroom. TV is watched in the den. We watch about 2 hours a week. The area in front of the fireplace will have some chairs and coffee table.

Screw a tv in the bedroom. That shit will ruin your sleep cycle.

I had lights in my old house above the bed, each with a switch right by the headboard. Really nice not having to have a stupid lamp next to the bed to read or when you wake up.
Also would consider built in speakers in the room and bath with a BT receiver.

Don't know where your washer and dryer are currrently, but my parents now have them in the master closet. Its super nice not having to drag clothes all around the house. Mine are in the hallway to the bedroom, almost as good.

bedroom is for sleeping and humping. a TV is a distraction for either of those activities.

Sex takes about 5.4 minutes and if the only goal is sleep, you can do that comfortably in a dark closet and a small bed.

A master SUITE, is a just that a SUITE for private living, away from the others in the house.
You don't need 320 sq.ft. for sleeping and masturbation.

I dunno about the bedroom, but I'd about kill for vehicle access to my backyard. No alley, and just two walk fence gates. I can barely squeeze the four wheeler in there though.
