Marvin Heemeyer and the Killdozer

There's a lot of bullshit to sift through now. Most coverage on it paints him as a lunatic who threw a tantrum, but that wasn't the reality of it. The wiki page has been edited so much that it's full of shit and not even worth reading.

Someone else linked it, but the guy wrote out what he planned on doing and why he did it. It's worth reading.

The concrete thing was a plant they were trying to build and that's what the city was using to fuck with the guy. The plant construction blocked physical access to his shop, then they disconnected him from the city sewer line and started fining him out the ass for it when he refused to purchase a septic tank. Most sources now, including the wikipedia page intentionally conveniently leave out the fact that they city intentionally disconnected him to try to bankrupt him through fines. He gets painted as a lunatic who snapped because he wouldn't pay.

Ah, that all sounds familiar. That's why I found it a mess to sift through all the garbage out there. I'd watch this movie, but I feel like he's going to be labeled the bad guy.

Marv made himself out to be the victim of a good ol'boy conspiracy and god was on his side. Once someone says that god is on their side, that person or group can go get fucked. When god is on your side its a pretty good indicator you're bat shit crazy.
The Docheffs made several attempts to buy the property once for 250k then 350k and Marv pulled out both times. They offered to hook up the sewer and water when they purchased the second piece of property but Marv told them to get fucked. Marv originally purchased the property for around 50k he sold it 12 years later for 400k. Did he get screwed over in 92 ? Maybe ,but I wish I could turn a profit of 350k in ten years on a small shop. He lost his shit and wanted to be a martyr.
I've talked to a few of Cody's sons and a few people that lived and where in public service in Granby at the time. They all said Marv was the unreasonable one not the other way around.

They are both wrong. Heeymeyer had an out when the Cement company offered to buy his piece of crap landlocked junk for a reasonable price. He then accepted. He then declined, and multiplied his demand several times, which couldn't be paid.

There is no question the town rather wanted the cement company rather than his muffler shop. He had an out, and the out was literally better for a muffler shop. Everyone would have been ahead had he taken the out, including himself.

If he hadn't queered the proceedings MULTIPLE times, I would 100% be on his side.

Unfortunately, you look into it a bit, and he was just an asshole.

He also used 'muh Gawd destined me for this' excuse, as I don't believe he was crazy. He was just a belligerent asshole.

If only the Killdozer had been the product of a more Righteous cause.

I definitely agree with all of that!!! All of it. Having looked into it much further since last time we talked about it, Hee definitely ended up where did by being an asshole.

Sometimes, the only way to win the game, is not to play. That's what I do. Enrages and frustrates people but then whatever other people think of me is not my business.

That’s also where in the end Hee was able to come up with a fan club, and sympathizers. Most people who have walked away from a situation where they had valid argument, do so with regrets and thinking of things they wish they had done or said in retrospect. Even though he could have walked, he decided to stand up for himself. His opponents drastically underestimated how much of an asshole he was willing to be. The sent from god shit is where he loses me. I’d give him more credit if he had just done it because he was pissed.

Part way through it down.

Definitely two different sides and perspectives. Hard to say he didn't bring some of it on himself. Also hard to tell from this if the city was corrupt or not. Could have been, but really can't tell from this particular account.

Awesome documentary. Too bad his coolant system leaked and he got stuck in the basement of the hardware store. I remember driving through granby a few days after that happened, place was fucked.

I'll try and fit it in over the weekend. As someone who has to deal with government/county officials on a regular basis. I can totally see what he says, one if the reasons indent schedule anything on Fridays or mondays...

damn, years ago there was an article talking about why BLM was the best thing since sliced bread and about how "it doesn't matter if our martyrs are criminals".

fuck i wish i could find it, some of you people would do well to read it as you search for the "perfect" asshole who goes on a rampage  of course he was an asshole, or course he was crazy and ordained by god. who else does this crap? :flipoff2:

Just finished it. They definitely make it out like he's the one that had a huge chip on his shoulder. They basically use the tapes (him) to defend himself against what others were saying in the interviews. I don't believe either side is innocent. I've lived in a small town for many years and you bet your ass there's a good ole boy network. They made it out like Cody was some sort of good guy all around. Then Cody claims to have walked out after the auction because he wasn't upset. Then the Thompsons said he had a real short fuse and would pop off and tell it like it was. The man stood to make millions from that concrete plant and when his plans were dashed (albeit for the moment), you think he'll just stand up and walk out without saying a word to the outsider who outbid him? Doubtful.

From my experience, small towns have a certain way about them. If you're not from there, people know it and until you come into the fold you will be treated as such. I'd say he had a bad experience with Cody and that firmly seated a chip on his shoulder. The more bad things happened to him the bigger it got. Until one day it got too heavy to carry and he made peace with it.

As for the religion he had, I'm not going to argue it. As someone who believes, I've had times in my life where I felt I was led. Maybe that's what he felt. The most miserable I've been in my life was when I was headed to work at 6 in the morning. As I drove down the same stretch of road I did everyday for the past 10 years I had a peace come over me. At that moment, I knew I had to find another job and leave the only home I'd ever known. It took a little while but I found one and I've never been happier. I do find it interesting all the potential events that could have stopped it from ever happening but didn't.

I give it 3.75 :flipoff2: out of 5 :flipoff2:

What if Marvin was a black man with BLM written on Killdozer?

The only thing worth listening to in that whole documentary are the reports of what was said in court. The rest of it was nothing but "he said this", "he said that", "they said". Bulshit.

Then the Wikipedia article would be sucking his dead dick clean off

Hearsay is 100% reliable, almost 15% of the time.

absolutely the narrative is likely to go the other way.

since the day it happened, I've said the Chris Dorner should never have been burned out of the cabin and that the police handled it horribly, despite his brutal violence. at the time, he was so violent that he wasn't a good fit, but watch his narrative evolve! Give it another month and he will be invoked as a "hero" in the long list of names and shit as "peaceful men killed by a racist system".

talk about a tough line to swallow, but it is and will happen.

I 100% agree with this.
With that said, I wish someone as irrational as Heemeyer, would do the same in Portland right now. Now that would be just cause. :usa:

Huh. I thought there was something about a concrete business or job that went sour.

edit: yea, the wiki has something about it. never really sat down and read about the guy.

That I thought they cut off access to his property , IIRC.

Watched Tread last night. Can’t tell if it was objective or not. Of course the survivors are playing the victim card, even though they admit to shutting him out because it was just “politics”.

All the most recent stories I’ve heard seem to leave out a couple details out that were always important to me in defense of Heeymeyer. When Doceff bought the land surrounding Marv’s shop, Cody literally built a structure on the access road to the shop, blocking it. In older arial photos you could see the old road with batch plant shit erected smack in the center of it. Marv bought the dozer to build a new access road to a different street and after bringing the dozer all the way from California, his permit to accesss that street was denied. I remember that being his last straw. The documentary makes it out like Marvin bought the Komatsu just for making killdozer out of it. I don’t think that’s true. The dozer sat for more than a year for sale before he backed it into the shop and decided it was gods divine will that he make a revenge monster out of it.

Don't think they ever cut off the real legal access to his shop. The lot they bought and built on, by pictures, looks like a short cut, that cut him off from the main street.
Why would a trash truck company pay 400k for a building that had no access?

You should read the facts. The city never blocked access to his shop and they didnt disconnect him from the sewer system. The citty had passed an ordi ance stating that all businesses that had customers coming to their place of business had to be hooked up to the sewer and he didnt want to pay for it. As for the concrete plant he stated in his own words on the tape that he just didnt want it there. He spent a shit ton of money fighting the sewer line hookup and the plant even after the concrete plant owners offered to give him a right away to access the sewer line that would have been shorter and cheaper and he told them to fuck off.
Listen to his own statements the dude was a paranoid schizo that thought everyone in town was laughing at him and plotting to steal his stuff. He wasnt a hero he was a nutjob.

I remember hearing the story when it happened. Early 2000's right? He had beef with someone there and he thought everyone in the town was intentionally trying to F him over so he armored up a Komatsu and leveled the town.

Good dude. Need someone like him in downtown Portland right now.

I got to hear the story from his brother.

There was a bunch of crap from the bank, city employees, his neighbor, and a bunch of businesses in town.

What it essentially end up being is he was from out of town and was becoming successful. They were trying to fine, regulate, and frustrate him out of business because he was more successful than them.
He only drove through places that had something to do with trying to drive him out of town.

I watched the show last night and from his friends side he seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. Then he became frustrated due to being an “outsider” that ran into roadblock after roadblock until he met his limit.

Post the sources for your "facts" renta cop.

Theyve been posted, dumbass learn to research. Listen to his tapes. He talks all about it. Even the people that were his friends say he was a nutjob. The rentacop gig isnt for another decade when they force me to retire.

Sounds like maybe he screwed up accepting the first offer and decided it was worth more so he backed out. That is proven by the fact the he asked for 100k or so more and the concrete guy immediately accepted. Then after Heeymeyer backed out of that, the garbage company paid 400k AND then had to pay the 80k for the sewage and other updates.

This basically shows that the property was indeed worth more.

He may have been an asshole but was it a nature or nurture issue?

Was he just an asshole by nature or made one by the actions against him?

Seems someone that creates a muffler shop in the middle of nowhere and makes a successsful business out of it has to have some charm and decency. Even the cops on the show were praising him for his craftsmanship and ethic.

I think that the guy just got pushed too far, lost about everything fighting an unwinable war, and snapped.

Guess your reading the facts through your jaded cop glasses....sorry, rent-a-cop glasses, border patrol right?

Thing is he didn't lose, he sold the property at a large profit. He could of walked away a winner at that point.

The interesting thing he did was give all the money to his dying father so he could then will it to his brothers and sister, thus making it impossible for anyone to go after his estate for compensation.

Sounds like he lost his business, his girlfriend, and his father and decided to end it all in a spectacular way instead of making a new life for himself. Some people don't want to start over. I can see the logic in settling a few scores before you go if you're going to go anyway. Like others have said, somewhere in between the 2 sides the truth lies.
