Too close to the fawking neighbors
Working on a BW 1356 in a 94 F250. I'm replacing the ZF manual trans because it lost all its fluid and welded itself together. Well, I figured out where all the fluid went. For whatever reason the rear output seal in the trans was pushed out, and all the fluid made it's way into the T-case through these corrosion holes (for lack of a better term).

I'm not sure what ate this case up. The cavity was dry, the gasket between the trans and T-case was good, and no external leaks anywhere.

My question is, short of replacing the case half, is there any product I can use to seal this thing back up? JB weld? RTV? Some specific kind of epoxy?

I'm assuming this thing somehow got water in the cavity and that's what ate it up. The trans looks fine except for some very light corrosion. Weird.

This stuff, belzona, is fucking bananas. Its incredably hard and is designed to be used in wear surfaces to be machined to clearance. The vids i had to watch from belzona were them building up the inside and machine surfaces of a massive water pump for this exact type thing.

This is a couple pounds worth and not cheap, im sure you can find a smaller quantity.

That being said, get anything other than a fucking pos bw 13xx. Fuck i hate those things. If not, take some of the left over belzona and repair/rebuild/coat the oil pump speed bumps so you dont eat another dick when the oil pump free spins and doesnt lube anything.

This is just a farm truck. Not my farm truck, but a side job I took on ( I knew better). It does plow duty and hauls water once a week. I know the right way to do it would be to swap one of my 205's in or get another case half for the BW. But in true farmer fashion, I'm trying to get off cheap :lmao:

You're being dramatic.

Also seems like you're turning into PAE over the years wherein you have knowledge of a very specific range of vehicles and everything else is garbage.

The 1356 is a pretty hardy case. More people would probably run the 1356 if the 271 wasn't a bolt in for fullsize rigs. It's way less prone to issues than the 208 that GM stuck in all the squares you people seem to love. It's not exactly hard to pin the pump in place. Plenty of modern cases need that too.

Ive fucked with a lot of tcase over time, the bw oil pump design is fucking retarded, no other case uses that design.

The np/nv gerotor pumps cant do what the bw common failure is.

The 246/261/263 problems arent the oil pumpn once again its the shitty magnesium case material.

Who the fuck likes 208's? Sure as shit aint me.

If op doesnt need a speedo then 271 would be my first go to. Ive seen more broken 27x tcases than 205s but they have plenty of interchangeable parts and are easy to find.

im as bad as pae? 100% fuck you dude, fuck you. I dont even want to get into his texts about the 14b from yesterday.

The spun pump is so easy to fix I don't think it's a big issue.

Nobody. But they're the same generation of chain cases as the 1356 and you don't see people complaining about them.

It's a shame nobody like Dakota Digital or Advance Adapters makes an electric box that just takes a VR sensor input, sets input to output ratio with a bunch of dip switches and uses that to turn a speedo output. Between rear axles, front hubs and transmissions/transfer cases pretty much every rig that gets a modern drive-train swap has access to some sort of speed signal.

I agree but I generally chalk that up to 205s never coming from the factory in the era of "plugged in a tuner and now my cummings brah has five thousand horse torks"

You're not there yet. I'm just warning you you're making progress in that direction. Like telling your friend to lay off the hard drugs before he's made the jump from coke to meth. :flipoff2:

Im a grumpy crotchity old bastard and go fuck your ass with a 31spl you ford sucking fuckwit.
