Simple almost newb question but has anyone here ever had or seen a converted 8x170 hub show signs of failure after re-drilling to 8x6.5 ? I’m a aerospace gauge and fixture builder so I tend to be bit of a over analyzer and fret over shit that doesn’t matter and this might very well be the case. Seems like adding a second hole pattern would add a lot of potential for cracking between the much thinner webs between holes.

I’m good with that.

I’ve got one unit bearing drilled at work and what I’m guessing is cast steel is as soft as butter, when get one machined there’s more holes than material left and just looks weak.

unit bearing has only 4 bolts and lots more leverage then wheel flange
This.

They give you 8 bolts on the wheel side because your average stamped steel center is the weak link and more bolts to spread the load helps it out.

I am running these bearings drilled to 8x6.5 with 40s. No issues in the past 4 years.
