Lucky Clover Racing 4800 build

I needed a yoke for the front output of my 205, so I decided to try out the Irate4x4 parts counter. 32 spline 1410 u bolt yoke, and I had to get some swag, too! Thanks for the great deal Austin

I have also been working on making a better engine lifting device. Previously, I was just wrapping chain around the exhaust manifolds to lift the engine. I found some fresh cracks half way around them when I took them off. So I made this spreader bar and some tabs that bolt to the heads. I feel much better about this way.

Been plugging away at several different projects. I picked up an 05 Super Duty D60 and started cleaning it up.

I also built a set of jack stands. Ever since I built my first set of rock sliders, I wanted threaded, infinitely adjustable jack stands. I had made some large ones for my shop a long time ago, but always wanted shorter ones. Now I have 4 that are basically just shorter copies of Sumner pipe jacks.

I am making 3 more taller pipe jacks, too.

I picked up a JD Squared model 32 manual bender. I made this trick pedestal for it that swivels 360 degrees to give me more (easy) options when the tube runs into a wall mid bend. Just loosen the 3/4" bolt on top of the pedestal and rotate wherever I need to, crank down on the bolt to lock it in place and continue bending. Also added jack bolts to the base plate for easy leveling.

I was a little worried about the whole thing slipping while pulling on the handle. So as soon as I got it bolted down and level, I threw in a piece of 2" x .120 DOM and pulled like hell.
This confirmed what I feared all along - manual bending sucks! I remember my first bender from 20 years ago started off manual as well. I was bending 1.5 x .120 and smaller, not a problem. But I needed it to be more mobile, so I converted it to hydraulic. This time I was hoping to save some money... Unfortunately, with the extra long cheater bar I needed, there's no way I could see the degree indicator. And I was worn out after 1 30 degree bend! But at least my swivel didn't slip. Oh well, looks like I will be going hydro again.

I have the billet version and it's sooooo worth it. Not having to bolt the thing to the floor was a huge reason.

So here is one of the taller pipe jacks. Fully extended next to one of my short ones fully compressed. Between the 2, I can cover any height between 15" and 50"

And with each one the opposite way.

I finished the hydraulic conversion on my Model 32 bender. I did a complete from scratch system of my own design and covered it piece by piece in the shop and tools forum - Tube bender DIY hydraulic conversion - detailed parts list

I still haven't decided on the final chassis design, so it's first real work out will probably be building a roll bar for an old GPW flat fender in a month or so.

I also got a smoking deal on this little mill from a friend, so I have been playing around with it trying to remember machinist things. For reference, the whole thing is about 6' tall

I ordered a 9" Diamond Axle builder housing for the project :grinpimp:
I have been wanting one of these for a VERY long time! I got to work with them on a Formula Toy build and with Dave's promod car, but never had one of my own
...until NOW!!!!

However, the very next day after the housing arrived, I had a long talk with my wife about the future. She has decided to go back to school to become a doctor and she is about 3 years away from starting med school. We both decided that racing would basically make that impossible, so I will no longer be building a 4800 Ultra4 car... but I still have all these parts and a need to build something fun in the garage that I have been busy setting up. So now it looks like I will be building a 4 seat family fun buggy.
And then, in 12 or so years when my wife is a full fledged surgeon, I can do all the racing I want!
