anyone use this stuff? Reviews on it seem good. I love CRC stuff. Aerosol spray cleaner is nice because it blows the dirt away, but this to be a better formula?

Need to order more, not sure if this vs crc aerol.

You still spray it, it works great out of a SureShot sprayer but you can go through a bunch in a hurry. I've used it in a regular spray bottle too but it's not nearly as effective

I think their math is broken:laughing:

We don't get the good brakleen here because communism even if you are using the red can in California it is non chlorinated, I think what we do have is just Naptha. (could be wrong but this is what I've gathered over the years.)

Go to CRC's site and compare the aerosol product you like to that gallon. The SDS will tell you roughly what is in it, the aerosol will have propellants too of course.

I just use acetone in a sureshot sprayer it works as good as the non chlorinated brakleen and I also use it for weld and paint prep.

I do gasoline in a sure shot to get the most nasty greasy shit off. If at all possible I will do it outside the shop and blow it off with an air hose just so I have less shop cleaning to do. Then if it needs to be cleaner yet it will get put in the solvent tank or I'll use some brake clean or carb cleaner on it.

soak it in gasoline (or diesel if its real hot out), let it sit for a few hours, then pressure washer

SureShot/Acetone user here too. Brake cleaner is only purchased when I have to douche the inside of something that has plastic or wiring going through it. Acetone eats some plastics and wire insulation, brake cleaner doesn't seem to.

CRC makes an electrical contact cleaner that seemed to work pretty good for plugs and wires. I was actually looking for some the other day at the parts store and the shelves were bare. Parts monkey said that it has been really hard getting CRC stuff as they were shut down for a while for China virus.

I'm fixing to try some diesel in a pump up sprayer to soak some really nasty shit before pressure washing...
it works like magic
there's a reason they used to use those air powered solvent sprayers, to get solvent all over things to loosen the goop before the pressure washer
now its all 'biodegradable detergent' type stuff

I have that, and use it when working just in dirty electrical connectors, but that stuff doesn't cut grease. 99% of the time acetone, but when I'm cleaning up grease from an electric trailer brake hub where the seal went bad (wires inside), brake cleaner is the go to.

whatever solvent is in your parts washer, a bread pan for under the spindle/backing plate and a proper cloth rag

also some rubber gloves if you don't want cracked and painful hands in a couple months of doing the same thing every other day

I have a parts washer and use straight kerosene

I like spray brake cleaners for the aerosol power to blow crud and dirt away, and leave a dry finish.

No on acetone because Ive damaged plastic before. I have never heard of a sure shot sprayer until this thread.... thanks!!

if it has any blow away power, that might be the ticket.

they kinda don't
at least the ones I've used are more like a can of spray paint than a can of brake cleaner

ahhh.

ok. so even if the crc is good, just wouldnt get the same pressure.

i might still try it. might have a place in my trailer.

There are 2 types of tip for the sureshot sprayers. One is a fine mist like 486 said, there is a tiny piece that you can remove to get a solid stream with more force. They also have an adjustable tip like you get on a plastic squirt bottle that can go from mist to stream.

I like the model 1102, it is plated rather than powder coated so the acetone or whatever will not harm it and comes with the adjustable tip.

tool like that should exist. excellent idea.

or maybe an attachment for an air compressor.

I've used engine cleaning guns with some success for stuff like that. But usually I will use them to coat things in cleaner rather than try to do much actual cleaning with them. Hell I've even used them to spray paint.

I got one of these.

and I fill with acetone or brake cleaner. Works great and use acetone to clean the oil and crap off the tubing before I work with it and mark it for bends and what not.

same here.

We have a drum of brake clean at work.

we all at work have modified our sure shots to change the jetting.

Same experience as above. SureShot doesn't have the "blasting power" that an aerosol can does, but it's so, so, so much cheaper than going through can after can of brake cleaner that it was worth it for me. SureShot with acetone and a little wiping/scraping/wire brushing does the trick.

I bought this one. Not a SureShot brand, but does the same thing. Fills up with a schrader valve on the side, and is all aluminum/stainless so acetone doesn't eat it up. Have had it since 2017, love it.
