Considering getting a new bow soon to practice this summer and be ready for deer in the fall. Past few seasons I've been running a Mathews Switchback XT. Shoots fine but it either needs some work or needs to find a new owner.

My hunting style is as mobile as I can be. When I hunt from above its all saddle hunting, also do a decent bit from the ground. I'm on public land so the only way to find deer is go deeper than most people are willing to go.

Overall goal is light and compact. I know that there will be downsides with this kind of setup, but there are also limits that I don't need to deal with - eg shots over 30-40 yards are pretty much a non-issue due to tree cover and foliage. I want something I can toss on my pack to get in there and carry for a while without it getting annoying to deal with. I'd also rather not go with a flagship bow due to budget and not having the skill to require the extra small increases they get you.

I've looked through a few sites, but found a lot of crap. Most of the reviews are AI generated crap (one said the best lightweight site was a model that weight over 1lb), many of the manufacturers sites seem to hide the weight.
One of the few that I found was this one, which appears to be an entry level bow, but one of the lowest base weights and Axle to axle lengths of any of the PSE series -https://psearchery.com/uprising/

So archery nerds - whats a good setup for light and smaller?

Most modern bows have a very wide range of lb pull and draw length as well as being super compact with the short, horizontal limb design.

I picked up an old indian chief for $25 off c-list a few years ago. Its nothing like modern bows.

What's your budget and whats your draw length?

The Athens I just got was much cheaper than the big name bows (pse, mathews, hoyt) with a 31.5" draw length and shoots just as good.

Not on the same level as the more expensive Mathews bows, but I bought my son a Mission Switch for Christmas and it's been awesome.

I've shot a recurved longbow for the past 15 years but I'm considering building myself a similar bow just because he's kicking my ass past 20 yds.

I could see it being outfitted as the perfect lightweight adult rig.

I'd like to keep it south of a grand all in, really closer to $750-800 ODT would be nice. Draw is ~28" if i remember correctly. Currently running a 70lb bow, but i was going to step down to a 60lb. Shorter ranges, the extra weight just means less practice and I don't shoot shots where that extra 10lbs matters.

Looks like the shop i've use in the past is a dealter for Athens. He's a pretty stand up guy and tends to only carry what he belives in. No longer as close to me, but might take a trip down to see him

That looks similar to the PSE uprising I found. I'll see if I can find somewhere to try one
