Left-Wing Social Media Platform ‘Bluesky’ Says It Cannot Keep Up With Users’ Censorship Requests

The left-wing alternative to Elon Musk’s X platform is already running into difficulties with its promise to censor “harmful content.”

Bluesky, which has received millions of sign-ups from angry leftists boycotting Elon Musk’s X platform, has admitted that it cannot keep up with the number of moderation and censorship requests from its progressive user base.

In a post from “Bluesky Safety,” the company announced that it was receiving over 3,000 censorship demands per hour, leading to a backlog in its response times.

They explained:

Bluesky has grown by over 3M people in the last week — welcome! With every wave of growth naturally comes an increase in moderation reports. Here’s a status report on how the Trust & Safety team is handling it:

In the past 24 hours, we have received more than 42,000 reports (an all-time high for one day). We’re receiving about 3,000 reports/hour. To put that into context, in all of 2023, we received 360k reports. We’re triaging this large queue so the most harmful content such as CSAM is removed quickly.

With this significant influx of users, we’ve also seen increased spam, scam, and trolling activity — you may have seen some of this yourself. Our team is reviewing these accounts, and you can help us by reporting them by clicking the three-dot menu on each post/account.

We appreciate your patience as we dial our moderation team up to max capacity and bring on new team members to support this load. Your safety is our highest priority, and we’re glad to welcome you to Bluesky!

Bluesky was originally established in 2019 by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. However, he has since stepped down from its board and encouraged users to stay active on X.

The platform claims to offer users more control over their online experience, though its real appeal for its users lies in its promise to censor content at breakneck speed.

Before Elon Musk bought out Twitter, the company had implemented its own aggressive censorship regime and had purged most conservatives from the platform.

Since the buyout, he has renamed it X and allowed freedom of speech to reign. This, along with the fact that Musk has strongly supported conservative ideas and Donald Trump's presidential, likely proved a critical factor in his spectacular election victory.

For many Democrats, this is a reality that is too painful to bear. Yet when Bluesky inevitably fails, X will still be standing as the home of freedom of speech.

Your buddy is a fucking idiot, he's dragging you down to his level a bit at a time.

Yeah, I’m thinking “buddy”?!? I just cannot align myself with people that don’t hold our constitutional rights first and foremost.
That's why the eyeroll. 30-year college roommate.
It's good to hear from outside your echo chamber.
I just got him to buy a copy of "More Guns, Less Crime" last night.
I'm not trapped in here with him, he's trapped in here with me.

I hear you on the echo chamber thing but I’m not able to find any common ground with a couple relatives that are hell bent libertards. But some of that is more than likely due to them not liking what I say or point out to them. I gave up on it and just troll them with the truth bombs.

I think we’re at a divide in this country that I doubt will ever get closer than it is today unfortunately.

Honestly if they can't see the mess this country has been the last four years you are not going to reach them they're blissfully ignorant.

Some people just want to be lied too.

Is that all they are is political views? To me, they're morals and ways of life. I can choose anyone I want to have in my life, and I'll only choose people that have morals which align with mine. It's unnatural not to.
Like so many things, that alignment is a spectrum.

Look close enough, and no two people are the same.

Pull back a bit further, and both sides of the aisle respect individual autonomy from controlling organizations, the truth as we see it, and loving family (however we define it).

I'm no liberal, but at the ground level they're people working from the info they're fed. Just like us.

Well, except for Hillary. She's looking for more babies to eat.

agree, to an extent.

We are all down here trying to figure this humanity shit out, in doing so we forget how temporal this world is. Kingdoms, empires, democratic republics...they've all fallen. And will fall, again. Hell, we ourselves are temporal. Along with the very planet we stand on.

With that in mind, just seems silly to get emotional like a woman and cut off family and friends simple because you have disagreements. Maybe figure out why they have the fucked up views that they do. If you dig beyond the surface, you typically can reach the true heart of the matter, either fear, logical fallacies, unhealthy attachments...whatever.

But just shutting people off, labeling them the enemy, and refusing to find common ground does nothing but entrench the divide and leads to greater polarization. Which, historically speaking, has greatly contributed to the temporary nature of human made institutions...like governments.

Do I think that most progressive policies are tyrannical in nature? Yes.
Do I think most "progressives" desire to be tyrants? No.
So if they don't desire to be a tyrant and I don't desire to be a tyrant, then there is common ground and there's a conversation to be had about how best to not be a tyrant.

Or be a pitiful angry little man in a bubble. That bubble is temporal, too, btw.

My liberal buddy was just pushing this yesterday. I asked him what happened to freedom of speech, and he began reeling off how the 1st Amendment only applies to government. :shaking:
I tell them they are correct. The 1st Amendment means its supposed to protect him from persecution of the government. It doesn't however mean he won't get punched in the mouth.

I don't have any liberal friends, this is by my choice. Nothing a liberal stands for, morals, ethics, sympathies and equality (their version of it) align with mine in any way. I don't dislike liberals per se but I fail to see how I could be friends with or marry etc someone I don't have anything in common with.

Now as far as that platform they are welcome to it, censorship and an echo chamber is not going to do anything productive for them, they can all sit around their camp fire holding hands and crying while leaving the rest of us alone.

Uh… your buddy is correct.

Yes he is, and that's not the point. Why his ilk need protecting from mean words on private sites is the issue. Supporting "free speech" is not only a legal issue.

Gotcha. And agree.

I have written some off the wall and crazy stuff on there trying to troll.
All I got was,I agree and thumbs up.
I even reported several random vids. Nothing yet.
Guess I need to up my crazy.

:homer:
42,000/24≠3,000

360,000/365 is just shy of 1,000 per day.

Not on the social medias and this one can fuck off even more than the rest.
