  • Old Built in kitchen cabinets.
  • Has a center slot and wood slide it pulls against in the center of the bottom.
  • Sloppy and slides like crap
  • Want to retrofit it to something better using existing cabinets and drawers.
  • Who knows what slide type of slides I can use to make drawers work better.?

I'm installing a set in a bit here. I've had good luck with the Richlieu sidemount full-extension models so far (over a year without issue, still smooth). I think I grabbed them from homedepot. (Edit: it was lowes.)

For the older undermount dovetail thingaderas I didn't choose to modify, I've used healthy doses of wax. There is a drawer slide tape you could place where the side edges of the drawer rest on the cabinet frame.

Side mount slides will be your best bet with existing drawers and cabinets: IF you have 1/2" of room or more on each side of the opening.

I was confused as all get out for a second. I thought I clicked on page 7 of the UK meme police and opened this thread to read about kitchen drawers.

Really depends on how much clearance you have around the bottom and sides.

Like said above, if you have 1/2" on the sides, any standard roller ball bearing slide will work. If you don't, you can make/buy new drawers or go to an undermount setup on the bottom corners.

You can try Euro slides for something cheap and work pretty well.

Blum is the premiere brand for slides but pricey. K&V make good stuff. I have used some from Amazon that were decently rated and have had good luck. If I am making something nice, I will use Blum stuff. Things for the garage/etc gets Amazon.

Now hinges, always Blum Euros

Post a pic of what you are working with

I will get more info As I progress. I did research before posting there is a ton of info out there But it seems every situation has it owns issues.
I saw the roller that can go on the bottom corner edges. Sounds like the side mounts might be the first thing to measure for.
Now knowing I need 1/2 in on ea side to install side slides. I will see what there is room for.

Thanks for the answers so far.

I measured it.

  • There is the opening then space on either side once inside the opening.
  • one side is about 3/4 recessed the other over and inch.
  • So I suspect I just build up the inside walls to fit the side slides equal to the draw sides and then mount everything.?
  • Might have to notch the opening some to clear the drawer slides

My cabinet builder buddy put Blum hinges and slides on my bathroom vanity and wet bar.

I put Amazon (Chinese) soft close slides on drawers in the master closet.

It's like comparing a G Wagon to a Roxor.

IIRC, the slides need 1/2" between drawer and opening on both sides. If you don't have that, they come in bottom mount too.
