What's new

kinda suprised I couldn't find a thread about this stupidity

The ethnicity that was most lynched... Whites.

IIRC the biggest lynching was of a bunch of Italian immigrants in TX.

I really wonder if there was ever actually a lynching from an evergreen. They're not really conducive to tire swings and such...

I guess people are inventive, though.

This was my initial thought as well. I couldn’t think of an evergreen tree with big enough branches low enough unless they wanted to trim out a cedar just for lynching

Granted, there were less than 5k lynchings of black people in all of American history and maybe 75-80% of those were hangings

420 nominations and they picked Evergreen :smokin:

But yeah, every state has their dumb assery they're known for. This is the shit Oregon is becoming known for, thanks in no small part to Portland.

Watch....we'll have to change our licence plates now....

The largest lynching in America was done to Italian Americans. The were then offered Columbus Day as a peace offering because they were about to to burn cities to the ground.

you are thinking mainly of the hybrid replants we see today. Most Native evergreens have large thick lower branches if they are growing on the edge of a clearing. Cedars would be kinda hard as their branches naturally slope down to help shed snow but Fir trees in general have strong branches.

WTF? My grandpa was Italian were are my reparations? :flipoff2:

are you referring to the thing that happened in New Orleans where a mob killed a bunch of dagoes after they were found innocent of killing the chief of police?

it's funny how the whole history of lynching is this country has turned into "only against black people"

everybody get's lynched

cue *first time* meme

How does an evergreen tree be a mascot?

Instead of an inspiring mascot, they probably picked something that nobody could find offensive.

Obviously, they underestimated the diligence of people looking for a way to be offended :lmao:

This reminds me of an old South Park Christmas where they removed all offensive symbols

EDIT: or the SP episode where they debated the town's flag (portraying a lynching)

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swingin' in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin' from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant South
The bulgin' eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burnin' flesh
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather
For the wind to suck
For the sun to rot
For the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop
