Anyone try these units out?

Seems like it'd be handy for quick welding jobs. I used to have a Ready Welder, but ended up selling it. Was a bit of a PITA to re-wire the batteries to 24v, or carry batteries to the job.

Guts of a $150 mig welder in a cheap dry case. In application it might be awesome.

Wasn't there a battery welder floating around here in a sponsored podcast post the other day.

$325?

voltage output not adjustable?
that is a pretty important option to be leaving behind

$325?
Same problem as a Ready Welder though... have to drag out batteries.

Same as Karnage though too right?

edit: My bad, it does have internal batteries. The anderson connector was throwing me off.

Ruffstuff had the bun trail welder on sale a while back and I picked one up. Put the whole kit in an mark 19 ammo can along with a 10 shade leather hood and some gloves. Probably should have just got a pack of 7018 and a stinger instead. :homer:

This reminds me that I need to pull it out and give it a try before trying to weld CJ frames back together in the boonies.

It has 2 small 12v batteries, like trailer disconnect battery, power wheels, etc.

Dragging a set of batteries out isn't the end of the world, though depending on situation could suck a bit.
Like pouring rain, mud, below zero temps where you want to keep vehicles running, etc.

I like that it's a traditional MIG stinger. Haven't fully decided on it vs the Bunn.

So why not buy a couple AGM motorcycle batteries and a Bun, and go to town? That's pretty much what the Karnage is...

From some place with No Name:

Solar and Marquette branded a really GREAT backpack mig welder. It contained an easily replaceable 24 volt battery in the bottom. It could lay down about 60" of weld before a 110 volt recharge was necessary. Clubs here would carry one in the group. I think I still have a couple, but I got used to arc welding with 3/32 "Missile weld" rod which I could carry in a plastic tube... and three jumper cables. It will stick springs together! Now I have added auto darkening goggles. Unbeatable...Except for a Premier Power which can weld better than a home unit. (hi Frequency) Pat, who invented it would have not made it any other way.

One "backpack" is Marquette M12191. Cordless Wire Feed welder 18ga to 1/4"

We put the mig welders in small backpacks. Weight might be 25lbs. Miller or Lincoln (The same parent also) bought them out and buried the product quickly. We tried a hard case Miller on loan. You could only do about 24" before unusable. We are not sure how they messed up the tech but definitely not in the same league. And much bigger and heavy. The Solars could be bought for $100-150 or so when Ebay started........ Marketing!!!!!!!

I bet you could use that same battery for any 24 volt system. It was about 3 x 8 x5" tall. 24 volt. Maybe $30. I think it looked more dry cell than wet cell. But i haven't used mine in 15 years. Charge it once in awhile for drama.

One way to keep your group together would be to put the battery in the front rig and a ready welder in the back one.

Funny you guys started talking about this yesterday, the snail trail guys just did a show on them .... and his Uniumogs which is a bonus :flipoff2:

Haven’t finished listening yet but they brought up H3’s....stupid ass H3’s :barf::laughing:

Shit semi decently stuck together is better than being broken down 40 miles from the nearest road.
not going to argue that

but this welder isn't my choice of tools

now if I'm broke lets say 40 miles away and you flop this thing out to use I'd happily give it a go
I'll pick a different path to the mobile welding, that is all

what one of you is going to order it and give a irate review?

Didn't Dewalt(?) have something like this at one time?

If you wanted to build one...

just curious if this schematic is drawn to scale

nukegoat has an interesting setup. It’s like 10 makita batteries in series to power some Chinese mig welder. Not the lightest setup but it’s as close to a legit welder as you can get on the trail.

I wonder if a large inverter around 4000 watts with a good charging system could power a small chinese inverter welder.

Think I'm going to try it out. I usually just bring my old 225G bobcat I bought for $500 on the tow rig but sometimes it's a bitch to go and get it if you're far out.
