So my recent work was so impressive that I was referred to a new client which is great in itself it means I am doing something unique. So my cell phone rang and the guy goes Hi Im Bob Vila I was referred to you to do some designs for some pergolas on my personal home. You fuckers can have your Kardashians . I grew up as a kid watching his show from the early 80s well into the mid 90's. I double checked sure enough he is a Palm Beach resident just north of Trump. I really hope my work stands out and I get the job.

Anyone else ever get calls like this?

I will admit we have alot of celebrity clients all over the country but to me I would have never expected a call like that.

Got a job when I was 20ish to build a couple new 70s yahmaha frames and assemble them with all nos and refurbished parts. Turned out they were for John waynes son ethan and I got to deliver the finished product to thier ranch in southern ca, meet the family, and get the full tour.

That's pretty cool. I remember his show always on air as a kid. I hope you get the job!

I had a similar call about 2 years ago. I'm a used truck dealer and took a 100k mile, 6.2 Raptor in on trade. Got a call on it a couple weeks later, from a guy wanting to trade his 5 series BMW in on it. After settling on prices, he asked if we could deliver it to his shop in South Austin. Asked for his info for all the paperwork, Jesse James was his name.
4 of us loaded up and delivered the truck to his shop. He showed us around and chatted a bit. He is all business and doesn't like to sit around not working. We were all curious as to why he would want a used Raptor with 100k on it? He said he was getting his trophy truck back together and wanted a Raptor with the 6.2 for his chase truck. Made sense.
We drove off in his twin turbo V8 5 series, not a bad day at work!

Meh, from I remember Bob just walked around the job site and a guy named Riley did all the work. I was more of a New Yankee Workshop fan.

Seriously though, congrats that's pretty cool. Any change you can hide a dick shape in the design?

Agree, always liked new yankee better.

My ex's grandfather ran an aircraft museum, John Travolta called during dinner, grandmother made him call back later:laughing:

back in early 90
design raised panel libraries for Whitney Houston and mike Tyson.
just another client that took forever to pay, never got to meet them, really did not care.

remember seeing bob villa on the original pbs this old house.
first house he did
mission hill area Boston.
norm was there just as a carpenter.

Fuck. I was thinking of Billy Mays.

Carry on.

That's awesome OP!

Remember when his partner the Brit sounding guy swam across that channel down in the keys? To prove how athletic he was. Then Billy chummed the water for sharks before he went out. It was back in the early days of Reality TV, and Billy was about to die from coke. So I think, high on coke, Billy Mays actually chummed the waters for his pal to swim in.

That's a solid dude right there, perfect for this crowd.

Also congrats on your phone call. Not only should you brag about it, you should tailor your marketing strategy around it.

grew up watching that, all I distinctly remember was them pronouncing it "boab"

it is always cool meeting or talking with someone interesting.

Had Bruce Lee's cousin come into the office back in the 1980's looking for a pressure gauge when he was trying to make a device to measure the impact of a hit.

last month I had Mike Patey call on an pressure regulator, not as well know but a real cool guy and I always loved planes

That is cool that Bob Villa contacted OP. As far as PBS shows I liked The Woodwright's Shop. Could understand what he said. Norm talked weird.

I worked for a very rich sum bitch and his princess bride on Long Island many years ago, 1400 acre estate, I turned a two car garage into a cabana using reclaimed Mahogany timbers salvaged from an old barn on the property and milled into boards. I even made the double hung windows complete with weights. Money and time were no objects, just get it perfect. Plus I got to stay on the farm while I was there and back then you could ride your quad on the beach before 9 am and after 6 pm, that was a hoot!
