Job interview question

If you really want the job though have a limousine drop you off at the main entrance.

Should I wear my dinner dress blues to the interview?

Nah, man - if you're going to the trouble of renting a limo (or Lambo), follow through already

1992 Plymouth Sundance with the "Duster" package. 3.0L V6 with the 5 speed.

I've kept it well maintained and running and it's just so easy to work on. I wouldn't hesitate to hop in it and drive it across the country right now.
If you drive that, then wear a pair of white shoes, white belt and funky colored slacks and button up satin shirt. Slick your hair back (providing you ain’t bald like most of us) and put on some powerful cologne. Knock em dead.

New race truck, clapped out car says you may have issues. New truck says you have your shit together. It all depends on how you carry yourself of course.

We got a guy working for us that is a total dufuss

But he’s very friendly and likable and will do whatever you ask with zero complaints

He basically the basset hound of employees , just a friendly lovable dufuss

He’s been on thin ice gotten close to let go but every time that happens someone else quits and we simply need the manpower and his job gets preserved for another six months

I pay attention to what people drive when they show up to interview, but I care more about how well they're dressed.
Showing up in a shit box is fine, wearing hey dudes and a stained shirt is not.

Shouldn't matter but sometimes it does. Our warehouse manager at specialty would sometimes refuse to hire people for the warehouse because of what they showed up in. Either didn't look reliable or his other favorite reasoning was they didn't know how to drive properly. Stupid reasoning. All the best employees thay had that stuck around had shitty cars. Me included. But I was hired before they started getting dumb and left after. Ford dealer doesn't care what I drive ironically:laughing:. My boss did say my merc with the missing grille and hubcaps does lend a decidedly drug dealer air to the parts dept parking but he thought it was hilarious.

How much do you care about the job?

Personally, I'd probably go in the old rig as long as it's not a complete piece of junk.

If they make a decision based on the car you drive (and/or what you wear, etc. etc.), is that a place you really want to work? Seems likely it's going to be a place where people are all about appearance and not about substance.

Especially for a factory type job. If you're applying for a sale job appearances probably matter, but for what this sounds like it may even be counter productive - reasonably professional certainly, but beyond that overly fancy seems excessive.

Much like that new Sailor checking in - ET1 shows up in whites how likely is it you're going to assume he's a good technician?

Of course, this also assume you can afford to blow off the job if you don't get it. If you really care, then perhaps more care is warranted.

Got hired. First day of work I showed up in my rusted out '96 dodge, which decided at that exact day to have a pinhole rust through the oil pan, and drain 3 quarts of oil onto the ground... Day 2 I showed up in an even worse '84 toyota. Parked that shit right out front. :grinpimp:

First job after the Corps (2012), I got there nice and early, parked my 63 Nova well away from the office / front door, near the shop garage door. Good survivor coupe, had been my driver for a few years in SoCal, brought it back to NoDak.

First coffee break as a steamfitter apprentice, the owner walks by and asks "Who's chevy two?"

Apparently I had parked in his wife's spot and every journeyman walking past it knew it and didn't tell me. I offered to move it quick, but he said "She can walk another 10 feet today, that's a pretty solid car."
