Got a job interview on Monday.

Do I show up in my 1992 clapped out shitbox daily driver, or my fancy new truck?

The way I see it, if I show up in the car, it means I REALLY need this job.

Discuss.

As a hiring manager I would probably fire myself if I was to consider the prospective candidate's car as part of the criteria unless your new job is a pizza delivery guy.

I work in a big aerospace company and so it's not even possible to know which car the candidate drove in the sea of cars in the parking lot.

What’s the job?

Retired and keeping busy selling Auto Parts, or a Military Consultant?

Fancy new truck with a $900 payment means you still need the job. Yeah you probably paid cash, but that’s not their business.
Maintenance Manager at an animal feed plant.

Yes, I paid cash for the truck last summer.

I'm looking for what's out there before I go back to what I was doing on the civilian side. I have a shitload of "military consultant" offers and working back on the Navy base, but I want to get away from that world for a while.

If push comes to shove, and I can't find a job (not likely), the jobs on base are my "safety net" jobs because I could start working those next week if I wanted to.

Show up in whatever you want. What you drive should have no bearing on whether or not you get the job. If it does, you probably don't want to work there anyway
I saw a girl get a job because they walked her out and her car was clean…. Clean, clean.

They thought it showed attention to detail and organization.

New vehicle. If the car you drive is noticed at all, the old shitbox is more likely to be perceived negatively. 80% of the population believes that you’re supposed to have a car payment, and when the car is paid off it’s time to trade it in for a new payment…

If you really want the job though have a limousine drop you off at the main entrance.

what are you calling a shitbox daily?

I wouldnt worry about it within reason. Just show up in a rig thats clean and not full of trash,

We had a guy show up in a chevy astro van that he turned into a pickup last night! It was kinda a red flag:laughing:

Show up in whatever makes you feel better. I do a reasonable amount of interviewing and unless you have something cool I judge you on whether or not you can read the fucking sign says that all vehicles in the parking lot must be backed in or notice that every other vehicle is backed in. If you have something cool I will ask you questions about it because I want to know if you are actually handy or just like throwing money at stuff.

You wear the appropriate clothes for the job you interview for dontcha? Same goes for your vehicle,

wtf is that?

You show up in that an I'd hire you. Because I know you are desperate and will work for cheap:flipoff2:
1992 Plymouth Sundance with the "Duster" package. 3.0L V6 with the 5 speed.

I've kept it well maintained and running and it's just so easy to work on. I wouldn't hesitate to hop in it and drive it across the country right now.
