What's new

Jeep formerly known as 'The Turd'

Gotta manual transmission so definitely need both arms sir.

Today was a fuckin' awesome 16-hour travel day. :smokin:

Damn near missed my connection in Atlanta ... but landed at Love Field in Dallas right on time. Grabbed me a super, high-performance and luxurious T'yota Corolla and escaped the DFW nightmare. Shot up through Amarillo and over to Raton, NM to hit I-25. Up and over the pass and on into Colorado. Made it to Walsenburg right at dark and dogged 'er off. Covered better than 6 hun'erd road miles and now relaxin' with a 12-pack in the Presidential Suite of a shoddy Best Western motel-no-tell. Ain't got no fridge, but cool enuf for the Coors outside the room. Life is good.

Still not sure if'n I-25 is open on up to Wyomin' and hear my jeep is buried in a damn 5' snowdrift in TNT's parkin' lot.

Tomorrow might prove right interestin'.

Got me 4 goals:

1) Get to fuckin' Cheyenne
2) Dig out my jeep and lil' trailer
3) Dig my way into my storage unit 'cross town to fetch all the shit that goes in my jeep and lil' trailer
4) Haul ass outta town and get a coupla hun'erd miles south where there ain't no snow

We'll see.

Looking forward to tonight’s update.....
good luck kowboy!!

Thank you Folks ... and Holy Fuck ... what a day it was.

Hit the road right at daybreak and busted right thru the heart of Denver. Roads clear ... traffic weren't. 'Bout the time I got up towards Ft. Collins, the overhead highway info signs all started sayin' I-25 was closed up to the Wyomin' border. Beautiful, sunny day so I figured they gotta open up the damned thang soon and mize well just go right up the gates and wait it out.

The 18-wheelers were lined up on the shoulder as always as I went by 'em to the gate. And it was open. Highway patrolman waved me right thru. They literally just opened it up. That's good livin' right there.

Interstate was clear and dry right up to Cheyenne. The city streets were bad tho. Turned in the rental car and went to see how fucked the jeep was. The trailer was actu'ly more snowed in than the jeep.

So fired up the jeep to let 'er warm up and then dug out some in front of the trailer tires to make a path. Locked 'er up in 4wd and popped 'er right out. Good to go.

Then I found where the 5' drifts really were ... at my storage unit.

Gate wouldn't open. Nobody in the office. Nobody answerin' any of the emergency phone numbers listed on the door. Fuck. Can't leave without all my shit.

So threw the snow shovel over the fence that I had borrowed from TNT. Then found the tallest drift against the fence and climbed over. Commenced to makin' me a tunnel to my door.

Made 'bout twenty trips and toted ev'rythang to the fence and threw it over into a pile.

Then climbed back over the fence and made 'bout twenty more trips over to the street and just chunked it all into the trailer. Gotta get the fuck outta town. Here's drivin' to the on ramp for I-25 ...

Gotta leave 'cuzz they was callin' for another blizzard. Back to the South of me over Raton Pass. Wasn't countin' on that one.

So back thru the Denver traffic again and down to Pueblo. This morning, goin' north, the countryside was clear all the way to Pueblo. Not no more. Callin' for 2 - 4' on the pass so gotta go. Got damned nasty by the time I got to Trinidad. White-out and hard to see where the road was. Backside of the pass was clear though. Woulda been a bad deal a few hours later. Still blowin' snow with huge north winds so kept drivin' all the way to Clayton, NM.

3 hun'erd miles in the rental car. 4 hun'erd miles in the jeep. And I'm sore as fuck from shovelin' snow.

Kowboy glad to see you made it !
How's the engine running / tuning issues ?

Ain't over yet by no means.

Was worn slap out when stopped here in Clayton last night. But looks like I needed to cover 'bout 130 more miles.

Snownin' and blowin' like a mother-fucker here this mornin'. Callin' for 5" and believe that's already on the ground. Snow/wintery mix all the way down to Amarillo accordin' to the weather folks.

Gonna be slow go and I ain't goin' nowheres 'till after sunrise ... not that we'll actu'ly see the sun mind ya.

No good :barf:

Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Well the sun did come out yesterday mornin' after all. Walked across the solid ice road to the baby truck stop lookin' for an ice scraper. Policeman was tellin' a fella that goin' down 87 to Texas would be really stupid and dangerous. I told the fella he could follow me 'cause I was headed to TX By Gawd. Fella wanted no part of it and policeman weren't impressed with my enthusiasm. Said it's gonna take days for someone to pull me outta the ditch. Told 'im that's exactly where I intended to drive and ... please ... have a nice day.

No ice scraper so I just used my gloves. Jeep was out in the wind so weren't in too bad a shape ...

And off we go! Put the starboard tires off on the shoulder to get lil' traction and eased on down the road at 20 mph. Damn rough ride in the plowed snow. Check out the sun reflectin' off the ice road ...

After a coupla hours and on into TX, the road turned more to snow and I was able to up my game to 'bout 40 mph. Pullin' a trailer thru this shit definitely added to the fun. Got spicey and dicey too many times to count.

Then the road turned to a big ol' Slushee. Best keep track of where your tires are or ya gonna lose it for damned sure. Could do 50 - 60 here with some serious concentration.

Then if by a miracle of some sorta god, and all the way south of fuckin' I-40, the roads cleared.

And I put 'er on 80 mph. Engine pulled it easily at 2700 rpm. One hand on the wheel, one hand holdin' my beer.

And outta the Snow Bowl ... and into the dust bowl. Sometimes hard to see much down the road.

Just kept runnin' a solid 80 and hittin' a hun'erd to pass folks. Believe there's hope for this engine.

And right at sunset, I made it to the Katemcy Rocks Park.

Damned good to see all my good friends again and get abused for drivin' a jeep. Commenced to serious two-handed drinkin'.

Chunked all the shit outta the trailer into a big pile, crawled in, ... and slept like the dead.

So even tho she wouldn't run at low rpm's ... I struggled way too much to get here to not fight my way up on a fuckin' rock. :smokin:

The she spit and sputtered 'er way on back to Jacksonville. Put 26 hun'erd miles on 'er this trip ... and didn't burn a drop of oil. :grinpimp:

But the best news is I done already found me a local dyno shop. Fella's a technical advisor for HP Tuners and an instructor for 'em. Now that's bad-ass.

Says he can sure 'nuff get 'er runnin'. Takin' it to his shop to drop 'er off tomorrow so he can start fuckin' with it. :bounce2::bounce:

I’ll drink to that!!!!

Lil' campin' trailer should sell quick ... market is strong.

Truck should sell ... it's a great deal.

Doubt anyone will give me $75k for the jeep. And I hope they don't.

Reckon we'll see what he can do ...

Hope they get it sorted.

I got lucky. When dkjeep from JKO got his Jeep tuned, he gave me a copy of his tune for letting him borrow my HPtuner set up. Cost me $50 to get a good starting point to break everything in before putting it on a dyno.

I'm thinkin' this fella can cypher it all out. Hopefully he'll be able to play with it some tomorrow.

Reckon I got lucky too. Least the tuner fella in Cheyenne tuned 'er good enuf to get 'er back 26 hun'erd miles to Florida. Always a bright side.

Preliminary report comin' outta the local tuner shop is that there's an exhaust leak at the manifold which is fuckin' with the O2 sensor ... which in turn ... is then fuckin' with the fuel delivery.

On the one hand, I hope it's somethin' that simple. :smokin:

On the other hand, I'm gonna be fuckin' pissed if'n it's somethin' that simple. :mad3:

Fella's gonna try to play with it some more this evenin'.

That's a bummer about the tuner up in Cheyenne not getting it right. Hopefully the wizard tuner in Florida gets it all straightened out without any more issues.
