What's new

Intros.

I just finished up my first trip to the Rubicon and the Tacoma worked very well and the overall trip was an epic experience with an awesome group of people! The group and I are still compiling digital media but here is a video that my friend made of the Tacoma going up Soupbowl.

Bought my first Toyota ever this year. Clean 2008 4Runner after lots of recommendations from here.

Goal is to keep it as reliable as possible to make trips from Pennsylvania to Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, and wherever else we end up. Mild, mild off pavement exploration for the family. Basically too pussy for here. :flipoff2:

Just did new brakes/rotors/hoses all around and put some Icon coil overs on. Need to drop the front about 1.5” to accommodate gear in the rear and get it aligned. This winter I’ll be tearing into it a little more. Colorado trip in 3 weeks and counting.

I’m a longtime Pirate lurker from early 2000's.

Used to work at Inchworm Gear for 5 years ('04-'09). Currently working at my family's 37+ year abrasive blasting, and powder coating facility.

I've had my rig Eeyore since 2005. Got it bone stock, with the motor in the bed. Have done everything to it besides the flatbed, and front bumper. Link to pictures of progression from '05 to '12. Vijeo of me going up soup bowl.

• Toyota RuF
• Chevy 63's
• Twin Cases w/5:1 in rear case
• Detroit Rear
• Posi Front (looking to upgrade to ARB)
• Longfield's from Bobby (rip) w/chromo hub gears
• 5.29's

Couple years ago, took it upon myself to redo some of the shortcuts i did with Eeyore over the years: changed all red wires to different colors, painting the truck, powder coating flatbed, do-it-yourself bed liner in the cab, winch, etc... Life gets in the way, i need to rebuild the front axle, plus some new wheels/tires, so I can take it to KoH next year with some friends.

Hey All - stopping in to give a brief intro to my rig. I don’t have social media so I’m contemplating on documenting my build and trip reports on this forum.

I’ve finally completed phase 1 of my dream build which is based off of the first gen Tacoma platform. This is my 2001 Tacoma double cab and the specs currently are:

Front Axle: Custom Passenger Drop 14 Bolt with Super-Duty outers, Yukon 5.38 gears and grizzly locker

Rear Axle: 14 bolt with Yukon 5.38 gears and grizzly locker

Transfercase: Atlas 4 speed with 3.8 low gear

Transmission and Motor: stock

Front Suspension: Custom Rockhound 3 link with Fox Factory 2.5x12 DSC coil overs and hydraulic bump stops

Rear Suspension: Chevy 63s and Fox shocks

Wheels and Tires: Raceline Beadlocks with 43” Super Swamper SX tires

Misc: Warn Zeon 12S, Tom Woods Driveshafts with 1410 joints, PSC hydraulic Assist with custom double shear steering arms, custom tube bumper, 4x Innovations rock sliders.

Here’s when I first brought it home:

Here is how it sits now:

We just completed the initial shakedown run and the truck definitely exceeded expectations.

I built this rig to be able to enjoy the Rubicon and that dream will finally become reality in about a month. Following a summer of wheeling the next round of mods will include:

Install the brand new Gen V L83 with upgraded top end work. A built 4L70, interior cage with integrated bed cage/spare tire carrier, and possibly entertain linking the rear suspension.

Looks goood, I’m just east of Carson City 🤙

Hey guys.

Just found out about this new forum. Pretty stoked on it!

Posted my build on pirate under the same username a while back. Happy to be getting back on here with ya'll.

My rig is a '98 Tacoma with a 2uz swap, 3 link front with Ruffstuff 9.5LC diff front/Hellfires and rear leafs/antirock on an FZJ80 rear. Dual cases all the goods. Aloha !

Hey everyone,
Slowly getting accustomed to using the Forum.
Purchased this '79 back in 2018 then had a kid. Finally putting some work into it now.
Upgraded to high steer, Spartan locker in rear, some gifted 33s, TG Power Flow steering upgrade.
Currently putting together 4.7 tcase. Big laundry list of upgrades for this rig.

build thread would be great if you haven't already started one

Thanks lagunaMS, I wasn't sure if anyone would care since I see so many other great builds. Self-conscious I guess, I'll get something going.
I have an 83 long bed so you building the same truck I have would be cool to watch. I also prefer the builds that are regular old trucks over the $40k trucks and buggy builds, even though those are awesome too.

Just found the new forum. Currently have a 2004 double cab Tacoma. Supercharged, dual cases, 3 link front, 4 link rear. About to swap out the trail gear axles for a set of 1 tons and 42's. Any pointers or advice is welcomed.

  • Rear ARB locker
  • 40" Trail Grapplers
  • Camburg +2.5" arms up front
  • BDS +4.5" bracket lift

Not really much yota left. Custom front leaf hanger only bolted in at the moment. Rears up front with boomerang shackles. F150s out back. Dodge D60/70U axles with 354s. Calipers ground to fit 15s so I can run 38s from my last all-toyota rig. 5.3 with mild porting and chamber work. Gapped rings. Drilled pistons for proper scavenging. Timing chain dampener and aluminum barbell from summit. Shimmed oil pump and drilled/ported oil galleys. New main and rod bearings. Stock cam. Gt45. Holley terminator X. Billet flywheel and clutch from centerforce. Chevy Nv4500. NWF 205 eco box. Big bearing 205 from behind a getrag. Wheel base is around 128-129". Planning on 16" shocks up front and 12s in the rear. It's a work in progress and the parts list is still huge. Will be fitting the engine soon and building a removeable dog house/console.

New here. Been lightly wheeling a R50 Pathy but it's on DD status now. I picked up a 92 Toyota Pickup from my grandpa.
It's almost too perfect to cut up and get trail ready.
46k on the ODO.
Once I get it out here to WA, I'll be able to get started!

Eta- 22re 5 speed
Apparently grandpa bought it from my late uncle. He bought it from a guy in OR and drove it to MN. It came with a flatbed but my uncle swapped a factory bed.
This info is coming real time from my aunt.

I bought this 4runner based buggy over the winter. 22r on propane, 5spd, dual cases with stock gears, 8" toyota axles. Overall it is in pretty good shape, needs some maintenance, minor work, and I want to setup the rear area for my tools/spare parts. I'll start a build thread when I get it in the shop.

looks like you got a bunch of room behind the seats for creative tools and such. maybe cooler rack above tanks and when needed to change out it folds up.
