What's new

Interesting tools for sale.

So much want. If I didn't already have a vise almost this big I'd go buy this.

^^ that's pretty neat. Wonder how the hobbing attachment is driven. I see a driveshaft, but does it drive off the carriage somewhere?

Report back if you go look at it.

I've never seen a hobbing attachment for a lathe and it sent me down a major rabit hole when i started googling.

I'm guessing there's a lot more to it than that one part he showed. I couldn't find anything on the hendey one, but others I saw showed a seriously complicated gear train off the back of the headstock.

Wondering if the crate he showed contains the rest of it...

It's a possibility, there is a gear sticking out of the paper. I'm going to try and drive down there sat. Taking the trailer and cash with me just in case, it's probably a 6 hour round trip so I don't want to do it twice.

Anyone need an HBM?

https://worcester.craigslist.org/hvo/d/ayer-horizontal-boring-mill/7271974175.html

We have a Universal Boring Mill Co (Hudson, MA). Horizontal boring mill from the late 30's and early 40's era. The ID plate is missing therefore I can't confirm what year or serial number. It does have the 4" spindle and has a 47" x 67" table, this is a large machine. It was used up till 6 months ago and we no longer have a need for it and would like to utilize the space. All the power feeds, rapid traverse and spindle speeds work. It has been outfitted with digital readout on the X and Y axis. Also it has tooling to go along with the machine. Asking $5,000 or best offer that comes along and can take it away. Buyer needs to arrange transportation and you can email or text: [email protected].

Lempco Straightening Press
Model 533

Under hung hydraulic bottle jack

Machine capacity: 60” long x 12” tall

The hydraulic jack can be moved left and right. It's under hung and is on wheels which allows it to move freely
I do not know it's tonnage rating. Sorry about that.

The machine works great!

We did a test bend to straighten a bar. In the photos you can see a solid steel bar approx. 2" diameter that is bent. The very last photo you can see we made it a lot straighter. I am not a machine operator and used this machine to the best of our knowledge. LOL!

Feel free to inspect in operation

Located in Bridgeport, CT 06607

We can load this onto a truck or trailer for free

Sold as is where is

How many 2ft+ parallels you planning on making? Exactly.

The number of people who want to make things bigger than a normal 6x18 can do and also plan to make those things in big enough volume that paying someone else to do it doesn't make sense is very, very low. That's why I haven't bought it. The only thing I'd use it for if I had it is engine work but I don't do enough engines to make a massive surface grinder worth it relative to just milling with a flycutter and then finishing by hand. I'd love to score a tiny benchtop model though. Most production shops are gonna want something CNC. Most repair and low volume shops (the primary users of manual machines in this day and age) simply don't need to surface things that big that often.
I have s 6x18 boyer and schults and imo its the perfect size for a home shop.

You will most likely never use a machine that size enough to make it worth the space it takes up let alone the cost of moving and setting up.

That manual chuck is also not optimal for a machine this size which in the wrong hands or with a poor setup could cost you a $200 wheel or cause an injury.

Ive thrown parts out of big grinders before, not fun. I think a coworker is still scooping poop out of his drawers.

I almost wanna buy it to take the turret and cobble it onto my lathe.

For sale is a heavy old 16" Southbend turret lathe from the 1930's. Catalog No. 2 C T, Model 2-H with 6ft Bed
Thru spindle is 1-3/8". Motor is 2HP THREE PHASE 220V/6A FLA.

Lathe came out of the Greenville Engineering machine shop where it was used to manufacture torpedo parts during WWII.

Machine was working well when taken out of service last year. I would not call this a precision machine, it's really for heavy cuts and fast manual production. But it served me well for a lot of shop tool making jobs, like cutting threads, drilling big holes and turning down welds, no problem. The heavy cast frame makes a huge difference to the stability of the machine and reducing vibrations when cutting. Also has a lot of different feeds and speeds to choose from, including some very slow back gears.

The turret has six tool locations for a 1-1/2" post, there is additional tooling available for the turret, as well a quick release collet system for sale separately.

Comes with a 8" three jaw chuck and a 4-position single-point tool holder.

Comes with cooling system which I have never run, no idea if it works. Based on the large guard on this machine it is definitely set up for wet machining.

Needs a new 3" flatbelt, but besides that, you should be able to get it running without the need to replace anything else. Comes complete with motor starter, plug in an play.

Also comes with a tailstock which you can modify to fit this machine, should you choose to remove the turret system.

Everything moves on this machine, nothing is frozen, note the grease and oil still present in the crannies. The lathe has been stored under tarps which began failing during the winter, they have since been replaced.

There's a video of the same machine in far worse condition on Youtube getting restored:

Weight is around 3200lbs. Foot print is 4' x 7.5'. Mounted on oak skids, will roll easily on pipes.

Can load onto a flat bed or trailer.

Come and check it out, first $950 cash takes it.

Thank you.

F that. Fix it up and put it back to work. A turret is useless without everything else involved. Hack fabing it onto your lathe will never work. I've got a ws turret lathe and it's awesome.

Would it not just be a case of a scraped/ground riser for the turret tail-stock and then fabricating whatever I need to make the power feed run off of my screw?

It would definitely be a tool and die type project which I hate but I don't see why it wouldn't be doable.

TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE GOD DAMNED CHUCK!
Fuck back off to Reddit.

Unless you're running a school machine shop it's really not that big a deal. It's a great way to keep the key from getting lost in transit.

That little trick will get you fired from most shops.

You do you, but that shit will catch up to you eventually.

$500 bridgeport.

Heck, the power feeds and DRO would cost you that much.

I smell a scam.

Around here its boats for ridiculous money.

I mean, Id still reply if it were within an hour of me even if I thought it were a scam on the off chance it wasn't.

I mean, there's got to be a catch, right?

Right?

ETA, found the ad, seems legit at first glance.

No way Im dragging it home 7hrs on my single axle trailer.
