I picked out two or three lockers so I had stuff where I needed it. Everybody was issued one but there were more lockers than kids so it didn’t matter.

There was a fee if you wanted a locker. I forget how much it was but it was enough.

I kept most my junk in the pickup

My school sounds different than a lot of y'alls. Each grade had a section of the school. 4 sections to the school. Everybody in that grade had a locker in that section, so at most you were 8 or 10 classrooms away from your locker, and likely needed to pass it to go to the next class.

I did, columbine happened my freshman year and backpacks werent allowed the rest of the year, following that they had to be clear, so useless for my heavy ass books.

In my days in school Jr High and High School one was issued a locker (no they didnt issue one near your classes and we at the time didn't seem subject to locker searches they didn't have search dogs back then that I knew of at least.

Some had built in locks and some had combination locks with a small key hole on the back but I always used my own lock, key or combination, other lockers had built in combination locks with no provision for a padlock.

My last year of high school was 1985. I used my locker as did most of the kids. I don't recall locker searches or cops on campus at all.

I kept my money in my locker and my weed guy knew the combo. After class, I would check my locker to make sure he left a dime bag in there and took the money so I could get high before my job at burger king.

Same home room and same locker for 4 years in High School... On the complete opposite end of the building as my classes. I'd stop and drop my lunch, jacket, hat, gloves, and any books I didn't need between first period and lunch. Stop at it to grab my lunch before and drop it off after and swap out whatever I didn't need for the afternoon.

We had to have a backpack. You just couldn't reasonably carry all the shit you needed and joints and cigarettes would get crumpled in pockets. Much easier to tuck those important items away in a safe inner storage pouch in your bag.

Yes, had all my shit “organized” so I only had 1-2 periods of shit with me at any one time. I never wore a backpack, if you have homework to actually do at home you’re not using your time wisely, school work stays at school. Think our breaks between periods were 5 minutes or so and you had enough time to get back and forth to you locker the way the classrooms to locker were set up.
This was me as well.

Most of the classes were in the same general area where all the lockers were. Except all of the "tech" classes (electronics, woodshop, ag, automotive shop, drafting, etc...) and all of the English classes. When my classes were in the same area, with 5 minutes, I had plenty of time to swap out books from my locker. Never carried a bag, just one or two books depending on what classes were coming up next.

The one year, I had the worst possible trek possible: the last classroom in the last building (on the far side of the building) to the autoshop. Just over 1/4 of a mile (~1400ft according to Google maps just now). And the teacher was one of those controlling dickheads that had to dismiss the class before anyone could move, even after the bell had rang. In the congested area, it was a challenge to move through all the kids, but once I got to the back side, I'd cut across the empty field and usually make it just in time (Although the autoshop teacher was cool and didn't care).

Freshman year at Roseville High. After that, no more except gym. The next year I was in San Juan school district that had already removed all the lockers.

Graduated in the 80s before backpacks were used at school. My locker was third floor of the main building with some classes in another building across the street. I lugged 3-4 classes of books around with me most days and you learned to plan ahead!

Where else do you hide the bong you use during lunch.
In the car parked on an adjacent city street off of school property. :smokin:

We had the skinny lockers with a top box for books. I used it to store a jacket during the day, and books from when they were issued first day until they had to be turned in at end of semester. I carried a notebook and a pen between classes, and really don't remember using textbooks very much at all. Seems like I had a couple of classes I needed the texts for, so there were a few semesters I carried a backpack. I might have taken a textbook home 5 times in HS.

Im surprised your school has books.

I don’t think my kid had any books. They were either a class set, digital, or a handout.
Lots of books, in addition to the chrome books.
Backpacks are heavy. Shoulder strap tears from weight, I sow it up and fix it and have to resow it after a month or two.

Can't be good for their backs.

Back in my days my bag was minimal stuff and I used the locker between classes for my books.
Kids say that "nobody" uses their lockers at school and to do so would be an oddity.

Our local burger king dealt weed out of the drive through on saturday nights. You needed to order a whopper with extra lettuce and mustard. Then they would scope you up at the window. worked ok for a year then someone let the secret out.

Our highschool was a square and each grade had a locker in one section. Jr or sophomore year me and a friend went to the Sr hallway after weekend practice and painted all the combination lock dials all black with black paint. Monday was fun. Ahhh the 80's. Kids would probably be brought up an vandalism charges nowadays.

Yep....used my locker in school. Even made shelves for it out of 1" pine boards that were cut to fit in and rest on the internal rivets/bolts.

Son never used his.

My truck became my locker. I asked them to quit assigning me a locker after the first year of high school and they obliged. The way the school was laid out it was impossible to make it to the lockers between classes. Stupid design that has since been torn down.

My high school, middle school, grade school, and kindergarten were all in one building, all on different levels, as you walked down the grades got lower. Cafeteria was on the middle level. School gym had to add 3 point line, only problem was it went out of bounds:lmao: Had a locker since middle school, kept books and jackets in it and 10 minutes between classes, plenty of time. We called the town peak-a-plum, peak around the corner and you were plum outta town.

My high school had lockers, but we weren't allowed to use them. Class of 2003. You can see our forbidden lockers being used in the movie below, privileged bastards :flipoff2:

We had a book locker and a gym locker. You kept your gym class clothes in the gym, er, locker room. If you were on a team, then you got a big locker, but if you were a dork being forced to take PE, then they only got a little basket type thing with enough room for shoes, shorts, jock and jersey, and a bar of soap...that goddamn Irish Spring soap that everybody used stunk up the whole shower.
