I’ve done quite a few sets of Cherokee/Grand Cherokee stiffeners. They suck. Welding upside down on different thickness material sucks even more. Welding not brand new perfectly clean different thickness material upside sucks the most.
Set up a test piece with the thickness materials on flat normal position. Get them beads dialed, favor the thicker material and drop onto the thinner. You can go up just a tiny bit on wire speed for the overhead. As said earlier push the puddle.
Prep, prep, prep. Clean tight shiny and bright. Flap wheel as needed.
