I have a 15 year old box from International, Sold at Costco.

The large long top drawer slides spit the bearings out and amazingly International is not in the tool box biz any more.
I did a half assed welded in replacements but my math was off and now the top drawer won't shut fully.

Also the box was full, I have tools stacked all over each other, and the organization was going to shit.

Well after looking everywhere I took a chance, it may be more of the same, and I may be kicking myself in 15 years.
But we will see.
I did a 73" roll cab with a 73" top chest, and the matching overhead.
I opted for drawer space over the hutch.
The hutch seemed like less storage, and more clutter.
Down the line I'll add an end cap.

So far I've started filling the overhead with blow molded cases

Very nice OP.
My boxes are all trashed having been around for well over two decades now. Planning something similar eventually - a single box with top (72”).

May it serve you well.

Icon are damned nice. US general are fine for my use, my family has USG boxes that have been overloaded for a decade or more without a single failure. I'd imagine icon are even better.

They are just as nice as the tool truck brand boxes without the inflated prices. If I were ever to buy a new box I would definitely go with ICON. We have been buying ICON hand tools for my service truck at work when I need to replace or upgrade and I have zero complaints. HF is on to something with that line of tools. As long as they don't get stupid with the pricing they will forever have buyers for that stuff.

Having broken a snapon box and gotten it warranteed years ago Id say I got my moneys worth. Pricing is even more inflated now than it was then so i doubt i would re buy. I wonder what icon warranty and support is like though cuz they seem like a good value and ive been looking at a cart

I can't speak to longevity of the box, But when we unpacked it one of the drawers was dented, like it was grazed by a forklift. with a phone call and my word they are 2 day shipping me a replacement drawer with very little questions and no charge.

I hope that's the only call I have to make.

Also first thing I did was stand in the bottom drawer, I'm every bit of 230 and it was solid, not a hint of flex.

Lifetime warranty is like anything though, who has a lifetime membership to blockbuster? Time will tell, but first impressions are good,

That's good to hear. I've honestly never had an issue getting something replaced at HF if it was covered by a warranty. I was curious how the ICON boxes/carts did, though, since they aren't something actually carried in the stores.

Haha standing in a drawer was the first thing I did when i got my big box too! Im glad to hear they replaced the drawer no drama. Judging by the sema videos of the HF icon stuff it looks like theyre serious about the brand and understand what it takes to put a dent in the pro market. I feel like snappy and matco have their head so far up their butts theyre blind to whats comin.

I've been saying for some time that the ICON and USG stuff is really nice. The tool truck stuff is nicer, but it doesn't seem like it is that much nicer compared to how much more the price is.

even replacing it in 15 years, you won't have the money of a box off the tool truck
plus it's a good way to get to the bottom of your drawers and clean out the box
i have a 30 yr old cornwell box that's still doing me well with a 70s snap-on top box that's seen better days

now truthfully: did the box roll under the door? or are you a munchkin :lmao:

I'm a guy in the garage, I'm not making a living at this. Now granted this is probably a pretty good step above the average neighborhood garage.

But no way was I paying three times the money for tool truck stuff.

but I also know guys range from home hacks like myself, to full fabricators.
So it won't getting poked at is part of the deal:lmao::lmao:

That's my son, all of 6' and the door is one panel taller than a standard door.

The box is 90" tall.

Looks Great about how much $ are we looking at? I figure the black Friday stuff was a good discount I hope. I'm sure your son is pumped for his future box eventually. That is a solid box from what I read, should be overkill for a homeowner. Congrats!

Request….

Document the organization of the new storage…. I keep looking at my boxes, shelves, etc and thinking everything would be cleaner/more efficient if I bought more/bettererer storage… but $$

No big discounts, but garrentee now that I spent the money a sale is coming.

No interest for 36 months, and 5% off
You can build it online.
Obviously free shipping.

Sitting on pallets in my driveway was $7800.
When he moves out, I've probably got enough stuff to set him up in a pretty nice 36" chest.

You don't want to see my organization, it's shit.
But I'll try.
And I don't want you guys seeing the crap tools I use:lmao::lmao:

Tool purchase.
Box Wrenches
S Wrenches
And extended rachets
Filling in some oddball stuff that's useful.

I'm going to do something else as far as organizing, but for now that's where they are
I've been wanting to play some with 3d printing tool organisers now that I have a 3d printer:laughing:

I've never had great luck laying out my stuff so usually nothing is ever really permanent
Same, for the most part I keep everything in the same place between top/bottom box. Makes it easier to get to stuff - not waste time looking for it. Once the job is completed everything gets put away.

UPDATE
Ok, nearly 7 months and one wrong drawer shipped Harbor freight has come through.

To refresh I bought this huge box it was damaged in shipping, during shipping one of the drawers was damaged, It was cosmetic, but non the less it was dented and it was a drawer that was about shoulder high, So it was clearly in line of sight. I contacted HF as the delivery truck was leaving. I unboxed it as they were bringing it down the driveway looking for this sort of thing.

HF was proactive, asked for pictures and such, Same day as delivery A new drawer was ordered, The new drawer showed up and was wrong, the locking mechanism is in a different location, their diagram shows all the same part #'s but the drawers are not the same.
I documented all of this and with some back and forth and a dozen pictures to show them a new drawer was ordered, but had to be built.
I was told 12 to 16 weeks, meanwhile I have a dented drawer that fits that location, and a perfect drawer that fits another location, but not the dented location.

As a side note some of these drawers are modular, you can remove two shallow drawers and replace it with one deeper drawer, the one that does not fit can be used in another location if I choose.

This morning the right replacement showed up, I installed it and it's right.

So now I have a good replacement, a dented replacement, and a third that can be swapped around to eliminate two shallow drawers, So far HF has not asked for any of those back yet.

I know I know
TL;DR

In the end HF has come through and delivered. It took awhile and some follow up emails. but I'll go with a thumbs up on customer service.
