Just updated Firefox on my laptop. Now I don't have any book marks or anything else. I've updated many times before and nothing ever got wiped out.

Is there a way to revert back to how it was before installing the update?

this top right?

If you hit "Alt B", does your bookmark menu come up? Or if you go to the hamburger menu then Bookmarks, does it show them?

No, there isn't.

I resisted their updates for a couple years, because they changed the way some major things worked. I updated one of my devices, hated it, and jumped through a bunch of hoops to "downgrade". It was a PITA. Now I just deal with the retarded way FF works.

None of that will bring back your settings/bookmarks/etc.

Sign back into your account?

This will bring everything back, if you had a FF account before. If not, you're screwed.

You might be able to recover your bookmarks from where FF stores them, even if the updated FF doesn't know about them.

Bookmarks, Downloads and Browsing History:
  • places.sqlite
This file contains all your Firefox bookmarks and lists of all the files you've downloaded and websites you’ve visited.
  • bookmarkbackups
This folder stores bookmark backup files, which can be used to restore your bookmarks.

How extreme are you willing to go?

When was your last restore point on your computer.

I got lucky, if you can call it that. I remembered that I had installed the Brave browser a while back and had imported my bookmarks to it. I didn't like Brave so I never used it. Even got rid of the short cut for it.

Ended up uninstalling Firefox. Found the previous version and installed it. Then was able to import my bookmarks to it from Brave.

Thank you for all the ideas. I'm sure I'll fuck it all up again.

thanks for the heads up, gonna avoid that shit even harder
been keeping the same profile files going for a long time, fifteen years or so, if they ditched local storage of that I'm not interested in the least

I got sick of Firefox and their stupid updates.

Seems like there was something they got involved in around covidiocy as well.

Made the switch to Brave and love it. No need for AdBlock extensions. The only problem is there are a fair number of websites that won't work with Brave. Some I order parts from, the cloud based program I use for my biz.

Stupid thing about that, the software company recommends Chrome...told the support dumbass I would never use Chrome with all the security problems they have. Started having some problems with it using Firefox and of course they blame the settings, blah, blah, blah. Wanted to remote in and check stuff. Tried Edge and it works fine. They said they were also having users with the same problem that were using Chrome...told him that obviously the problem is the software and not the settings on multiple different users that are using 2 different browsers.

Now that you got firefox going,go to the bookmark manager and backup AND export your bookmarks. Save it someplace you'll remember.
What version of firefox are you using? They did change how bookmarks are stored years ago, but I don't recall any issues updating.

I reverted back to version 127.0.2

Just saved and backed up my bookmarks and the installer for Firefox. Thanks

edit:
I can't stand dragging my phone around with me. When I'm at home the only time I bring it with me is if I'm going to be gone all day. I do use it a lot overseas and offshore for work. One thing I hate is that they love to do the group chat thing. It always turns into a fuck fest of stupid shit and pictures. As soon as I see that, they get a two word message from me. "I'm out" , then I remove myself from the chat.

Never had an upgrade issue with Firefox and I've been using it since 1.0. Anyway, glad you got it all worked out.
