So, putting in a backwater valve at a friend's father in law's house.

Couldn't get my hands on a "vertical" valve, so I got a horizontal one. :rasta:

It's got a manual "force-on" handle so it'll for sure work if someone's home.

I was thinking about adding a float to the valve so it'll actuate automagically when the shit-water gets to it.

Any ideas of what I could attach? There's room for a little sports ball in there, and I can ty-rap it to the valve, or drill and bolt with a stainless bolt.

Whatever it is, it'll have to live in a sewer pipe for a long time and still float.

So, best idea I can come up with is a little pipe bomb.

I think I'd have room for a 1 1/4 inch ABS pipe bomb attached with either a stainless gear clamp or some genuine Ty-Raps

Had the house backed up before?
Or do they putting things on the plumbing that can fuck up quickly.
Earlier this year we got a storm that flooded the town. Sewer backed up and they're at the low end of town.

This thing cost a couple hundred and will make insurance happy, and might save a future mess. I don't see really what can fuck up? Do you think it's just going to clog constantly?

We use these types

Never install a backwater valve vertically. The valve’s flapper, which prevents backflow, must be able to close properly. A vertical installation would always keep the flapper in an open position, rendering the valve ineffective against backflows.

I think he meant he wished he could find one intended for vertical use. :homer:

a float on the valve would make it open when it should be preventing backflow

Looks like something that would require regular cleaning to stay functional.

Thats why I want to add the float.

Also, this one has a manual handle as backup.
